She has not ruled out a career in politics, though right now she is interested in pursuing a communications major when she goes to college. SHE WOULD LOVE one day to return to St. Vincent in the West Indies, where she spent last summer as an AFS exchange student. Birckhead said the people there are friendly and "like Americans.' She enjoyed the "laid-back" atmosphere of the islands, even though it was "hot all the time." when there with a Her favorite, place in Europe friend, Julie Goslee, and her friend's mother, Gladys Goslee, of Salisbury, who teaches French in the Wicomico County school system, was Tours. The French city was her favorite place because of its party atmosphere, due mostly to a soccer competition being held there at the time. Birckhead, a a a a a a a a a a a native of Snow Hill, lives home with her parents, Lewis and Fannie Birckhead, and her younger sister. She has an older brother, Lewis Jr., 34, of Washington, who is married and has a family. The young woman works at a fast-food restaurant in Ocean City, where she has worked during the summers since she was 14 years old. She is also on the basketball cheerleading squad at Snow Hill High School, and is a member of the 4-H club there. Ballots for the 'Miss Heartlines" competition, along with the Heartlines series, will be available at displays wherever the books are sold beginning this month through January 1987. -Birckhead said she enjoys the teen romance novels for fun and relaxation, though she doesn't necessarily identify with the protagonists. She said she's not really serious about becoming romantically involved with anyone just yet. It would seem she's probably too busy. By LOUISE ASH Of The Times Staff SNOW HILL - She has traveled to Europe and the Caribbean, served as a Congressional page, and d now her picture is being distributed nationwide as one of four finalists in the "Miss Heartlines Contest,' sponsored by Dell Publishing Company. Janeen Birckhead, 17, of Snow Hill, a petite, pretty young woman, was chosen from among 700 entries in the competition by Dell. The contest is being undertaken to promote a new teen romance series called "'Heartlines," and the winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and 100 best-selling Dell books. Birckhead is taking it all in stride, however. She is not a stranger to the public eye. The Snow Hill High School student, who will be a senior this fall, is the current Miss Calendar Girl, selected by judges in a pageant sponsored by a local Delta Sigma Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kapha Alpha sorority to raise money for scholarships. She was also the Phi Beta Kappa's Miss Cinderella in 1984, and a finalist in a pre-teen pageant several years ago. Her younger sister, Nicolle, 15, is following in Birckhead's footsteps. She is currently "running for Miss Calendar," too, and wants to be a Congressional page like her big sister, Birckhead said. It took Birckhead "years and
