Salt Lake City anchor, Jeff Passolt paired for KMSP's 10 p.m. newscast

LOCAL TELEVISION Salt paired Marni Hughes, Salt Lake City news anchor, grew up Michigan and Ohio. Lake City anchor, Jeff Passolt for KMSP's 10 p.m. newscast KMSP, Channel 9, will pair longtime anchor Jeff Passolt with newcomer Marni Hughes on its coming 10 p.m. newscast, set to debut Aug. 28, the station announced Tuesday. Hughes is a weekend anchor and reporter at KSTU-TV in Salt Lake City. Passolt will continue to anchor the 9 p.m. news on KMSP with Robyne Robinson. News director Bill Dalla man said that the decision to use Passolt, but not Robinson, at 10 p.m. was "no slight whatsoever to Robyne." He explained that Hughes "was the most talented person we found" of the male and female news talent the station conin sidered. Hughes grew up in Michigan and Ohio and worked at stations in Ohio and Indiana before moving to Salt Lake City in 2003. She said she is looking forward to moving to the Twin Cities with her husband and 1-year-old daughter, calling it a "wonderful community for raising a family." KMSP meteorologist Janie Peterson will add 10 p.m. weather duties to her roster and Dallman said sports anchors Dawn Mitchell and Jim Rich will share sports duties until a permanent 10 p.m. sports anchor is named. The Fox-owned station announced its plans for a new 10 p.m. newscast at the same time it canceled the 10 p.m. news on sister station WFTC, Channel 29. DEBORAH CAULFIELD RYBAK
