Station KSI Sets June Video Casts •Station KSL expects to establish television broadcast service early in June, Ivor Sharp, executive vice president, announced Saturday. A construction permit was granted last July to the Radio Service Corporation of Utah by the Federal Communication Commission in Washington, D. C., Channel Five being designated. A network affiliation agreement with the Columbia Broadcasting System has been signed, and also, initially at least, television programs of other networks will be carried by KSL-TV. C. Richard Evans, general manager of KSL, said a 5000 watt transmitter, as well as other equipment, was scheduled for delivery in March. A number of the staff of KSL have already had considerable television experience. Conference sessions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April, 1 1948, and again in October, were televised from the Tabernacle into the Assembly Hall over equipment purchased by the Church. The images were picked up inside the Tabernacle and carried to receiving sets by coaxial cable 1 to the Assembly Hall and there released on number of receivers. Later, for a period of four months, the television equipment operated by KSL was used by the ZCMI to provide intra-store telecasts to seven video screens located in strategic spots. ZCMI was the first store in the west to install intra-store television, and also, was one of the first stores in the country to use it. In February of this year several surgical operations were televised by KSL at the LDS Hospital. The operating procedure was sent from surgery into two separate conference rooms where local medical men viewed the screens. This telecasting was so successful and provided such an interesting experiment, that from an academic standpoint, several new vistas were opened to speculation as to what might be done in medical education and other fields.
