Using the schlieren photography technique, NASA was able to capture the first air-to-air images of the interaction of shockwaves from two supersonic aircraft flying in formation during the fourth phase of Air-to-Air Background Oriented Schlieren flights, or AirBOS flight series.

Virtual Career Connection: How Sound Shapes Our World

Join us for a virtual event featuring one of the Career Technical Education (CTE) jobs at NASA helping to shape the future of transportation, technology, and exploration. Hear from experts who research how the human brain perceives sound – a field called psychoacoustics – and study how aircraft noise impacts communities. Registration Deadline: Dec. 2

JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut and Expedition 73 Commander Takuya Onishi sets up the CIMON artificial intelligence-powered robotic assistant inside the International Space Station's Kibo laboratory module. Engineers on the ground tested CIMON's ability to command a free-flying robotic camera for JAXA’s ICHIBAN technology demonstration. CIMON tests how artificial intelligence affects crew support potentially relieving crews for more important tasks and increasing time for relaxation during long-term missions.

Virtual Career Connection: Artificial Intelligence in Space Exploration

Join us for a virtual event exploring some of the ways artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing space exploration and flight. Find out how AI is transforming space missions, from robotic helpers on the International Space Station to rovers exploring Mars. Registration Deadline: Dec. 2

Launch Your Name Around Moon in 2026 on NASA’s Artemis II Mission

The collected names will be put on an SD card loaded aboard Orion before launch. NASA is inviting the public to join the agency’s Artemis II test flight as four astronauts venture around the Moon and back to test systems and hardware needed for deep space exploration. Participants can download a boarding pass with their name on it as a collectable. Deadline: Jan. 21, 2026
