Detroit bankruptcy: Kevyn Orr says Rick Snyder 'should be on somebody's short list for 2016'
DETROIT, MI -- Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, a Democrat, admitted to a Detroit radio station Monday that his time spent with Republican Gov. Rick Snyder for nearly the past 16 months really surprised him.
Their work together during the City of Detroit's bankruptcy plan, approved by a judge on Friday, convinced Orr that Snyder has huge political potential.
"I think that man should be on somebody's short list for 2016," said Orr, in an interview broadcast Monday morning on WJR 760 AM with host Paul W. Smith.
Orr referred to Snyder's potential as a candidate for president or vice president two years from now.
It's unclear if Snyder would consider running.
But Snyder didn't confirm or deny his interest in the job last month when WJR radio host Frank Beckmann asked him about it.
Snyder also explained in the interviewwhy he doesn't wear ties with suits.
"Well, people know me this way," Snyder said. "I haven't worn a tie most of the time, and that goes back to an old message I want to send about how we need to innovative, trying new things, moving things forward."
Do you think Snyder should be on somebody's short list for 2016?
