Dodgers Looking To Sign Relievers

Not only are the Dodgers interested inJohnny Damonand a number of catchers, they're attempting to sign one or two setup men, according toESPN.com's Jayson Stark. Jesse Crain,Jason Frasor andMatt Guerrier are high on their shopping list.
Crain, a Type B free agent,declined arbitration from the Twins, but he won't cost the Dodgers or any other team a draft pick. Since Guerrier was not offered arbitration, he won't cost a top draft pick, either. Frasor, a former Dodger farmhand, would have cost a top pick, but heaccepted arbitration from the Blue Jays.

Dodgers have certainly been far more aggressive than I expected.
If the Dodgers snag Frasor before he accepts arbitration, I may have to name my first born after Coletti.
If Colletti gives up a draft pick for a RP he better not pass me on the street.
He’s not going to have to. The Dodgers have a protected first round pick.
He said “draft pick” — not just a first but any pick.
But colleti wouldn’t be giving it up…The Jays would get a comp pick but Dodgers wouldnt give up anything…

Frasor is a Type A and despite the protected pick, Dodgers would still have to give up a pick and in this case, it would be a 2nd rounder. Jays also get a supplemental pick.
And yes, Frasor is accepting his arbitration or so Mike Wilner says but he’s not a reporter or anything so it’s possible it could be wrong but I doubt it.
Yes, but why lose a second round pick for a relief pitcher when we have bigger needs. Left field, Catcher and Third all need upgrades. Even Loney should not be secure in his job.

I think Jesse Crain and Guerrier would be great fits…Although I’d like to see the other one sign with the Mets.

Ned Colletti has really had a tremendous off-season thus far…The Dodgers are looking really good for next season.

Diamondbacks? Really? I remember everyone raving about the Mariners, not the Dbacks. What did the Dbacks do aside from acquiring Edwin Jackson and signing Adam LaRoche and Kelly Johnson?
Oh them too. I’m just saying. I remember some people last year were like Webb-Haren-Jackson-Kennedy are going to be the best 1-4 in baseball. The Dodgers get an inning eater, extend an old soft tossing lefty, overpay for Uribe, and now they look good? Their OF defense is scary and their 3rd and 1st basemen are not too good either. Even though I don’t like Russell Martin (SIRM!), he’s a fine (not amazing) catcher. Their defense is still terrible. Also, I think Torre may have broke Broxton lol.
I’d like to laugh this one off, but actually I hope the frisbee tosser from Simi Valley at least comes back to Spring Training. Monasterios’ should probably get a look at LR/MR, but at least he now can go to Albuquerque if he needs some tuning without being offered back to Philly, and finally, I already have some friends at the State Department trying to screw up Bellasario’s visa again, so hopefully he won’t be an issue. All but the last part is true, of course. Just no more Ortiz’s.

We don’t need no stinking relievers! Especially with the team needing a left fielder and an answer behind the plate. As I see it now, with Broxton, Kuo, Jansen, Belisario, Hawksworth, Troncoso and likely Elbert, why would Ned want to complicate his lot by adding Crain or Frasor? It isn’t like there are no relievers at Albuquerque.
They could use another reliever. Belisario and Troncoso were really shaky last season, not to mention Broxton. I am extremely optimistic about Jansen, but we do need to keep in mind how long he’s been pitching.
That being said, I’d rather sign a 1B and then trade Loney for the relief help.

If 2 of Kemp, Ethier and Loney (or less likely Martin) perform at the level that they are capable of, the Dodgers could very well be contenders next year.
I think Colletti just made a great move by trading Ryan Theriot right before Thursday’s deadline, and we got a pitcher from the Cardinals who have an amazing pitching coach and staff.
We have a set five man rotation that rivals any team in the NL west. We just got Juan Uribe an infielder that can put up 20+HR a year who can play 2nd, SS, 3rd exactly what we needed.
We all knew George Sherill wasn’t coming back and if he dose its gonna be for very cheap,so now Colletti is going out there to try and sign a proven middle reliever?!
And all before the winter GM meetings?!

what difference does it make that you got a guy from the cardinals who have an amazing pitching coach and staff? If Dave Duncan can’t turn Hawk into something good, well, lets just say the odds aren’t great he’ll be something in LA.
Personally, I just think Ryan Theriot fits the Cardinals mold, and I personally think Hawksworth will not be great, but I can see him putting up like a 3.60 ERA in 60 innings in middle relief.

Your totally right. I was just saying that if we were gonna non tender Theriot on Thursday anyway better to get something than nothing. And if was gonna be a Pitcher im glad its from the red birds, and from what i know he’s not that bad he just lost his job to injury.

Problem is, it’s going to be 2011, not 2009. The fact the Cards gave him up KNOWING Theriot was going to be non tendered speaks volumes.

I dont think so, Theriot is a top of the order bat (maybe not a good one, but hopefully, you get my point) that can play both middle infield positions well. Im sure there was a market for him.
At $3m for a .321 OBP and .312 SLG? I doubt there was much of a market.

Rick Honeycutt is probably just as good, if not better than, Dave Duncan.
How stupid would it look if the Dodgers, who traded Jason Frasor to the Jays in the first place for nothing, would give up a first round draft pick to sign him to a multi-year deal.
Uhh it’s already being reported Frasor is accepting his arbitration and Dodgers have a protected pick.

2004/03/30 Toronto Blue Jays traded Jayson Werth to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jason Frasor.
The Jays gave up talent to get Frasor initially. It’s not their fault the Dodgers didn’t use it.

I agree. He had that plasma injection in his elbow (I think), and I remember it was one of the first ones they had ever done. I think Randy Wolf had the same injection when he was in LA, and they didnt resign him either. Russell J.Martin was the lucky recipitent of that injection last year. Hmmmmmm…

Some Dodger fans in another blog were talking about how great their relief pitching was, but this is a sign that all is not well in the bullpen. Aside from Kuo, they don’t strike fear, and their closer is all messed up. They also have holes at catcher, left field, and I wonder how Loney is taking all this talk about moving him. Damon for LF? Fine with me.
Don’t any of you Dodger fans understand that the Cardinals knew he was going to be non tendered after the overpayment to Uribe? So you think they would give up someone they still had any faith in? They could have waited a couple of days and signed him. Colletti’s coup in this is the money he saved, not that he got a pitcher for Theriot.
one good thing about the giants winning the WS was that it lit a fire under the Dodgers’ collectives butts – last year – Jamey Carroll was it, this year they are much more aggressive.
