Son of Timothy and Jennifer Pauley…has one brother, Owen, and one sister, Ella...As a junior at Duke University in 2022, he started all 54 games at third base and slashed .292/.402/.495, leading the team in AVG, hits (62) and walks (32)…saw action in 30 games (25 starts) as a sophomore in 2021, helping the Blue Devils win 12 straight heading into NCAA postseason play, the longest winning streak by a Duke team since 1998…did not see action in the 2020 season that was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic...Rated as the No. 2 third baseman in the state of Georgia and 37th-ranked prospect in the state by Perfect Game USA…attended Milton High School (Ga.), where he batted .446, slugged .584 and sported a .491 on-base percentage on his way to being named the 7A Player of the Year his junior season…was a two-sport athlete who also competed in football, and a scholar-athlete who was regarded as an AP Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society…also served as a member of the Young Men’s Service League.

Was acquired by Miami from San Diego with LHP Robby Snelling, RHP Adam Mazur and INF Jay Beshears in exchange for LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Bryan Hoeing on July 31...At the time of the trade, was ranked San Diego’s No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline...In his first Spring Training, slashed .314/.400/.486 with one double, one triple, one home run and three RBI across eight games (five starts) at first base, seven games (three starts) at third base and one appearance as the DH. Led team with 16 games played...Made his first career Opening Day roster and made his Major League debut with the Padres on March 20 vs. LAD in Seoul, South Korea...Went 4x32 (.125) with two home runs and five RBI in 13 games. Earned the Padres 2023 Minor League Player of the Year award in his second professional season between Single-A Lake Elsinore, High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio…slashed .308/.393/.539 with an organization-best 152 WRC+ across 127 games, along with a combined 32 2B, 23 HR, 94 RBI and 97 runs scored...Posted a .300+ AVG at all three stops, beginning with a .309 clip (71-for-230) with 14 2B, five 3B, four HR, 36 RBI and 12 stolen bases across 62 games for LE from April 6-June 25...Opened the season garnering California League Player of the Month honors for the month of April, slashing .371/.482/.557 while leading the league in OBP (.482) and ranking second in AVG, hits (26) and OPS (1.039)...Hit safely in a career-high 13 consecutive games from May 31-June 15 at a .393 clip (24-for-61)...Earned Cal League Player of the Week honors on June 4… posted six consecutive multi-hit efforts from June 1-7, hitting .500 (15-for-30) with 13 XBH (5 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR) with 9 RBI over the stretch...At the time of his promotion to Fort Wayne on June 27, Pauley ranked fourth in the Cal League in OBP (.422) and seventh in AVG (.309)...Played in 45 games for FW and amassed eight 2B, 16 HR, 46 RBI at a .300 clip (51-for-170) to go along with eight SB...Recorded his first multi-HR game to go with a career-high five RBI in his High-A debut with the TinCaps on June 29 at Lake County...Had just six hits in 32 at-bats (.188 AVG) in his first nine games with the TinCaps from June 29-July 6 before hitting safely in 27 of his final 36 games with FW, going 45-for-108 (.417 AVG) at the dish from July 7-Aug. 20...Capped his stint with the TinCaps tabbing Midwest Player of the Week accolades on Aug. 6, his second weekly award of the campaign...Posted multi-hit efforts in 12 of his final 21 contests with the TinCaps from July 28-Aug. 20, including an eight-game consecutive hit streak in his final eight contests from Aug. 12-20 before being promoted to Double-A San Antonio on Aug. 22, where he played for the remainder of the season...Hit safely in 15 of his 20 games for the Missions, batting .321 (26-for-81) with 10 2B, three HR and 12 RBI...Between all three stops of the Padres’ farm system, he spent the majority of his season at 3B (85 appearances, 83 starts), as well as 17 appearances (all starts) at 2B, 14 appearances (13 starts) in left field and 13 appearances (12 starts) as the DH...Following the season, he played in 21 games for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League and hit .238 with four 2B, five HR, 20 RBI, four steals and 14 runs scored…the 20 RBI T-4th in the AFL in RBI and the five HR T-5th...Went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Peoria’s 12–9 win over Scottsdale in the play-in game…went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter in the championship loss.

Posted more walks (21) than strikeouts (17) in his first professional season between the Arizona Complex League Padres (R) and Single-A Lake Elsinore...Hit .217 with three 2B, one 3B, two HR, 12 RBI and nine runs scored across his 15 ACL games...Assigned to Lake Elsinore on Aug. 22 where he hit safely in 12 of his 17 games at a .328 clip (19-for-58) with four 2B, two HR, 13 RBI and 14 runs scored...Between the ACL Padres and the Storm, he made 21 appearances (18 starts) at 2B and nine appearances (eight starts) at 3B.
