Victor Laurence (Vic) Black graduated from Amarillo (TX) High School in 2006. Played baseball at Dallas Baptist University where he went 6-4 with 99 strikeouts in 88.2 innings as a junior in 2009 ... Struck out 246 batters in 245 career collegiate innings. Is the highest drafted player in Dallas Baptist baseball history...Alma mater also produced Ben Zobrist, Jason LaRue and Freddy Sanchez. Selected by the Mets in the 41st round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign.

2014

Pitched in three games with the Pirates, posting a 4.50 ERA (2 earned runs/4.0 innings) without a decision...Also was 5-3 with 17 saves and a 2.51 ERA (13 earned runs/46.2 innings) in 53 games with Indianapolis (AAA) of the International League ... Had 63 strikeouts. Made his major league debut on July 25 with the Pirates with 0.1 inning of work at Washington. Collected his first major league win on September 15 vs. Miami in a 1-0, 12-inning victory...Hurled 1.0 perfect inning...Also picked up wins on September 18 vs. San Francisco and September 29 vs. Milwaukee. His three-game winning streak was the longest by a Mets rookie reliever since Hisanori Takahashi had two, three-game winning streaks in 2010. Notched his first major league save on September 24 at Cincinnati, a 4-2 win .. Struck out two over a perfect inning of work. Was limited to just two starts with West Virginia on 5/16 and 5/22...Was placed on the D.L. on 5/24 due to a shoulder injury and an eventual biceps injury...Returned to action during instructional league in October.
