Details
The Community Impact Grants seek to increase positive health outcomes for youth in need and accelerate equitable outcomes for communities across Washington State and Oregon. To do so, we will support efforts that:
- Ensure that all young people can realize the many rewards of physical activity, in particular the benefits to their mental health.
- Invest in organizations, coalitions, and efforts that prioritize systems-based approaches to create and accelerate positive outcomes for under resourced communities who are striving to improve their social and economic experience.
Focus Areas

Positive Health Outcomes for All of Our Region’s Youth:
Baseball, softball, and other forms of physical activity have many benefits for young people. In addition to building healthier bodies, being physically active helps relieve stress, boost self-confidence, and combat depression. But not all young people can reap these benefits. Heritage, identity, and income often determine who has access to sports and the landscape of youth sports has become increasingly exclusive. The Mariners want to ensure that all young people can realize the many rewards of physical activity, in particular the benefits to their mental health.
Support will be provided to organizations, partnerships and coalitions working to increase opportunities for young people, especially youth coming from communities who have historically encountered barriers to participation, to realize the many rewards of physical activity, including the benefits to their mental health. The Mariners also seek to support efforts that grow organizational or sector understanding of the connection between physical activity and mental health.
Priority will be given to organizations led by individuals from and primarily serving those communities facing the greatest disadvantage.
Accelerating Positive Outcomes for Disadvantaged Communities:
Our current social and economic circumstances have both exposed and deepened longstanding disparities in and between our communities, making them impossible to ignore.
Support will be provided to organizations, coalitions, and efforts responding to the issues most crucial for ensuring that everyone, especially the communities currently experiencing the greatest need, have abundant and meaningful opportunities to thrive. Priority will be given to efforts leveraging research and advocacy to promote systems-based solutions, and those led by individuals from and primarily serving communities who are facing the greatest disadvantage.
