Name:The mineral is named for Andrew (Andy) Gregor Christy (b. 1963) a Welsh–Australian mineralogist, petrologist, geochemist, and solid-state chemist, for his contributions to mineralogy, in particular, for the description of the new minerals (kapundaite, mössbauerite, mojaveite, bluebellite and favreauite), his work on minerals of the sapphirine supergroup, pyrochlore supergroup and hydrotalcite supergroup, and more recently for helping advance the knowledge of the crystal chemistry of tellurium.
