In allusion to its composition, being the Yb-analogue of the older species hingganite-(Y).
Type Locality:
The Yb analogue ofhingganite-(Y),hingganite-(Ce), andhingganite-(Nd). One of a very few Yb-dominant approved minerals, the others beingkeiviite-(Yb),samarskite-(Yb),xenotime-(Yb) and the (rather not approved)hellandite-(Yb). Compare alsoytterbium.
