Operated 1985 to 1992. Open pit, low grade tin mine. When operating, it was the largest primary tin mine in North America. Now being reclaimed.
Currently (2009) owned by Avalon Rare Metals Inc.
The East Kemptville Tin-Indium Project is located approximately 45 km northeast of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in the vicinity of the former East Kemptville Tin Mine.

The property consists of 4 contiguous exploration licenses and a Special License covering an aggregate of over 10,000 ac (4,000 ha) and 880 ac (356 ha) respectively and is easily accessible by a secondary highway.

Hisingerite
Formula:Fe3+2(Si2O5)(OH)4 · 2H2O
Habit: Botryoidal
Description: Richardson adds hisingerite to a paragenetic sequence plot, with a question mark behind the name. More recent WDS testing on very good material gives Si and Fe, with a bit of Al as an impurity. Geochronology

Mineralization age:Late/Upper Devonian : 376 ± 3 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
