Bat Claim, Los Angeles Rock and Gravel Co. Claims;

Deposit: Gold is concentrated along bedrock and within the overlying 6 ft of gravels above bedrock. Vein material is brecliated, coated with drusyquartz

Deposit type: Placer Au-PGE

Development: A prospector was sinking a shaft to bed rock in the canyon bottom in 1964. Placers were worked by mexicans prior to 1848,and they were "rediscovered" in 1876, and worked continuosly in 1900's on a small scale. Los angeles rock and gravel co (1933-1936) attempted a larger scale mining effort, working a 2-mile segment along the upper part of the canyon, and e.e. Layton worked an area 1 mile in extent about 1.5 mile belo W their operation. Small operators have continued mining since then.
