Sec 31 T39N R42E. Tactite
Structure:Closely Spaced Joints Trend N10e, Dip 28w

Alteration:Nontronite-Alteration Of Garnet; Mica, Chlorite Altered Zones In Both Hornfels And Granodiorite, Associated With Joint Set: Apatite, Scheelite, Chlorite, Silicification, White Mica, Goethite, Limonite.

Deposit: The property covers a part of the northern contact zone of the granodiorite stock with limy sediments of the preble fm. Pods of scheelite-bearing tactite occur in the thin limestone lenses that are interbedded with argillaceous hornfels where the strike of the bedding is into or at a slight angle to the granodiorite contact. The tactite is thickest at the contact and pinches out to the northeast along the strike of the beds. The tungsten content of the ore mined ranged from 0.35 % to 0.85 % w03 and probably averaged about 0.6 %. The deposit contains a small pod of garnet-quartz-tremolite skarn on the northern contact of the northern lobe of osgood granodiorite. Limestone section here is discontinuous and tactite pods are small. The zone could connect with that of the richmond mine to -the west. Workings include 3 open cuts under lease to ronrex mining co. In 1956. Open pit mining started in 1951, continued intermittently through 1956. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept; 3 field observ

Deposit type: W skarn

Development: Intermittent open-pit mining 1951-1956. The mountain king claim, owned by taylor, neilsen, and thomas (t.n.t.) of battle mountain, and adjoining property, leased from the southern pacific railroad co., was mined by open-pit methods from 1951 to 1956. No activity in 1984.

Geology: Localization of tactite bodies controlled by composition and bedding it follows bedding in limestone; tactite bodies are thickest next to the granodiorite and become narrower and pinch out northward along strike of beds.
