Sito della gramaccioliite di Sambuco (Sito “storico”di Sambuco), Sambuco, Valle Stura, Cuneo, Piemonte, Italia

Mineralized clefts in biotite-rich granite gneisses of Autes Mt. (Gesso-Stura-Vésubie Terrane, Argentera crystalline massif).

In the past, the site, located at the foot of the cliff overhanging National Road 21 (about 200 m beyond the second avalanche-protection tunnel towards Sambuco), was improperly indicated as “Pianche” or “Pianche di Vinadio”, from the name of the village situated one kilometre to the south-east. Actually, in the immediate proximity of Pianche, there are other occurrences of mineralized clefts showing some differences in mineral assemblage [http://www.mindat.org/loc-190231.html].

Note: Due to safety reasons, mineral collecting at this site has been prohibited by a municipal ordinance.
