The Borborema Pegmatitic Province is in the northeast portion of the Borborema Province, a complex geotectonic feature, strongly affected by the Brasiliano-Pan-African Cycle, encompassing part of the Rio Piranhas-Seridó and São José do Campestre domains. The main geological units in the area covered by the PPB include the Paleoproterozoic crystalline basement (represented by the Caicó, Santa Cruz and Serrinha-Pedro Velho complexes), the Neo proterozoic supracrustal rocks of the Seridó Group, and the Ediacaran granitoids (type Itaporanga, São João do Sabugi and Dona Inês) as well as Cambrian-age pegmatitic bodies and dykes. Some attributes make the PPB a potentially interesting area for lithium prospecting, among which the following can be mentioned: (i) large number of pegmatites (>1500 bodies); (ii) presence of L-C-T type pegmatites (Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum); (iii) pegmatites with relatively large dimensions; (iv) production of lithium minerals in the past and currently; and (v) low pressure metamorphism of the wall rocks. Despite these favo rable attributes, the lithium potential of this province is still little known and explored.

Most of the spodumene in the region comes from the intermediate zone (zone III), which is characterized by a predominance of K-fel-dspar crystals. The quartz core (zone IV) also produces a small amount of spodumene.
