Nepheline syenite intrusion of c. 7.5 x 2 km emplaced in rocks of the Kuncha Formation, which comprise essentially phyllites and quartzites.

Laserre (1977) suggested that the emplacement of the Ampipal body probably of Late Eocene to Early Oligocene age, but preliminary Rb-Sr dating seems to indicate a much older age (Bordet et al. 1981).
