A stonequarry ingarnet-pseudoleucite syenite in an alkalicring dikecomplex also includingnepheline syenite pegmatite,ijolite andcarbonatites. Quarried for railroadballast rock.

Located on the South rim of the Magnet Coveformation. Started in the 1870s and worked sporadically until the 1900s. Formerly owned by Henry de Linde of Mabelvale, Arkansas. Mineralization is inmiarolitic cavities in the rock.

After the passing of Henry de Linde in 2019, his family sold the 40 acre property which he had held for many years at Magnet Cove. On the southern edge of this acreage is the Diamond Jo Quarry. This property is now owned by McGeorge Construction Company, a family ownedquarry and mining company of Sweet Home, Pulaski County, Arkansas. There are presently no plans to mine this property (Howard, 2022, pers. comm.).

Note on the mineral list: Specimens of "kassite" from the Diamond Jo Quarry seem to becafetite. Evans et al. (1986) incorrectly surmised that the original descriptions ofkassite andcafetite had mixed up XRD data and optical/physical properties. See Krivovichev et al. (2003) for a more complete explanation. The XRD results reported by Evans et al. (1986) for Magnet Cove "kassite" are consistent withcafetite (C. Emproto, 2024).

Description: Confirmed by SEM-XEDS and SCXRD. SCXRD analysis at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History yielded cell parameters consistent with the cafetite structure refinement published by Krivovichev et al. (2003). This material was called "kassite" for many years. Extra confusion arose due to the publication by Evans et al. (1986) alleging that the XRD data and optical/physical properties for kassite and cafetite had been inadvertently swapped. This has created a lot of confusion in the literature and in reference databases.
