Located along the Serra river valley, this quarry became famous in the 1980s owing to the finding of well-crystallized sulfosalts (e.g., guettardite, robinsonite)as well as sulfides (orpiment, realgar). After a long period of abandonment, it was reopened at the beginning of the 2010s. During the first phase of the new activity, some nice sulfosalt specimens have been recovered in the old dumps.
Fine specimens of Enargite, tabular pitch-black crystals up to 4-5mm in size with bright metallic lustre, associated with stibnite, wurtzite, sphalerite and acicular sulfosalts.
Guettardite occurs as small acicular crystals deeply striated parallel to the elongation with black colour and metallic lustre.

Note: The toponym Pitone derives from the words "pitòn", that in the local dialect means rocky spike.
