A 1.6-m wide Cretaceous camptonite dike (lamprophyre) cuts the crest of Higby Mountain, which is a N-S trending cuesta ridge with a west facing cliff underlain by the Jurassic Holyoke Basalt. According to Philpotts and Philpotts (2007), the dike is composed of fine-grained vesicular camptonite containing microphenocrysts of magnetite, titanaugite, and kaersutite in a groundmass of minute prisms of titanaugite, kaersutite, and apatite, and still smaller euhedral magnetite grains all poikilitically enclosed in larger plagioclase laths. Some of the vesicles are filled with carbonate and analcite (amygdules) and others with extremely acicular titanaugite and kaersutite in a cloudy alkali feldspar matrix. This same residual melt material fills mm-wide fractures that parallel the dikes contacts.

Note, the reference incorrectly gives the town as Meriden, whose eastern border is just to the west.
