In 1999 there were 3 main areas for gem mining at Kin:Kin-ko-lan-bauk,Kin-shu-taw andKin-kyauk-leik. Rubies and sapphires were recovered from the alluvium using several medium-to-large scale open-pit andmyaw-dwin mining schemes. In November 2001 these mines were closed but continued to work seasonably. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok.
