Redcap Creek skarn, Chillagoe


A skarn exposed in the bank of Redcap Creek, approximately 15 km north of Chillagoe town. Skarn is developed at the contact between Carboniferous diorite dykes and Silurian Chillagoe Formation marbles. Both endo- and exoskarn assemblages are present.

Note: Chillagoe was previously shown under Tablelands Region when Mareeba Shire was amalgamated with three other shires (Atherton, Eacham and Herberton) to form the Tablelands Region in 2008.

Mareeba Shire de-amalgamated from the Tablelands Region with effect from 1 January 2014. Accordingly, Chillagoe and nearby mines should now be shown as being in Mareeba Shire.
