A Pb-Ag-Au-As-W mining district with mines on the SE end of the Victorio Mountains. Discovered in 1880.

Mineralization is carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn replacement deposits, W-Be-Mo skarn/vein, and porphyry Mo deposits. Local rocks include Silurian through Cambrian rocks, undivided. Controls for ore emplacement included a presumed granite or porphyry for the genesis of the ore, cut on the N side of the hill by a fault.

Local geologic structures include high plains broken by low-level volcanic hills.

The blind porphyry molybdenum-tungsten deposit was discovered in the late 1970's, beneath 1500 feet of cover, during drilling by Gulf Minerals. It is located immediately southwest of the Irish Rose Mine. Although the ore deposit has many of the characteristics of a Climax type porphyry molybdenum deposit, including the inverted saucer or mushroom cap shape and the pervasive presence of fluorine, there are other factors that make its classification uncertain. These include the lack of clear association with a cupola like stock and an elevated copper/molybdenum ratio. Various aspects of the deposit are discussed by McLemore, et al (2000), Donahue (2002) and SRK Consulting (2008).
