Rodingite bodies in serpentinites of Beigua unit, an ophiolitic slice of the Voltri Massif, crop out in this area and contain typical minerals such as garnet (grossular), vesuvianite, titanite, chlorite, diopside, etc. Mineralised blocks are found in debris and screes along the valley.

The mineral area, located on the left side of the valley in debris and screes between Case Stellin and Passo della Gava, can be reached by car from Voltri, following the road to Fabbriche and then to Sambuco; from Sambuco follow the path towards Passo della Gava.

The name "gavite" was given by Repossi (1918) to a variety of talc, which forms milky to yellowish and greenish coatings and incrustations on garnet, chlorite, and titanite crystals.
