Miniera della Gaeta, San Siro, Provincia di Como, Lombardia, Italia

Old mine located on the eastern slope of Sasso Rancio at La Gaeta cape, between Menaggio and Acquaseria (Sant'Abbondio). The mine is now part of the municipality of San Siro, formed on 29 November 2002 through the merger of the former municipalities of Sant'Abbondio and Santa Maria Rezzonico. The mine mainly exploited Mn-rich limonite and pyrite veins in a Pb-Zn + Fe strata-bound deposit hosted in Anisian (Middle Triassic) limestone.

The metallogenic frame is similar to that of the ore deposits found in the Varese Province and quite different from the Carnian (Late Triassic) deposits of the "Grigne area" of the Lecco and Bergamo provinces.
