The Taocun iron deposit is located in the central NVB. The outcropped rocks in the mining area are Dawangshan Formation made of andesitic tuff, tuffaceous breccia, and andesite. The iron-ore-host rock is pyroxene diorite porphyrite in the form of stock. Iron orebody is mainly within the diorite porphyrite and minor produced in the contact zone between diorite porphyrite and the Longwangshan volcanic rocks. The main orebody is with 1700 m long and 810 m wide.
