The Silbereckle mine, located near Reichenbach, worked the northern part of the same vein that was worked by theMichael mine.
Hydrothermal (epithermal) lead-zinc vein in a fault zone of Tertiary age (parallel to the Rhine Graben fault). Rocks in this area are gneisses, red sandstone, remains of shell limestone and, to the north, quartz porphyry.
There is a flooded adit and a dump.
How to get to the locality: From Lahr (exit from the A5 Basel-Karlsruhe) in the city, go straight towards Biberach/Kinzigtal. Follow the main road through Kuhbach to Reichenbach (district of Lahr). In the center of town, follow the valley road signposted to the Gasthof Bruckerhof and golf course on the left. At the golf course, continue straight ahead into the valley (on the right, you go to the Bruckerhof and the Michael mine). In Gereuth, a forest path signposted Felgendobelweg branches off to the right. After 400 m, the old mine tunnel is on the left in a blockage. The tunnel is flooded. At the crossroads, turn left up the bend and follow the path 500 m up the mountain in the direction of Gereuth. Then at the next 170° bend there are dumps in the forest.
Access to the locality: The tunnel is full of water almost up to the roof, and therefore inaccessible.Since 2018-03-23: The forest owner does not tolerate mineral prospectors in his forest. Collectors — according to him — must have driven up there in droves in the past and left traces of destruction behind (information from Mineralienatlas, accessed 8 February 2024).
