Flood deposits (Smythe's Quarry Boulder Member) exposed in banks at roadside of Ongaroto Rd, Tirohanga Rd and the area between them including SH 1 roadcuttings. Clasts of sinter and banded rhyolite.

"SMYTHE'S QUARRY BOULDER MEMBER
Distribution and Content
Between Atiamuri and Whakamaru large boulders are a prominent feature of the Waikato River valley floor. At Atiamuri they are confined to the left bank, where they cover a small area opposite the mouth of the Whangapoa Stream, most of the left bank 830 ft terrace at the dam site, and a large area downstream from the Bailey bridge. They are best exposed in the left bank cut-off wall, and in an incomplete section at Smythe's Quarry on the Whakamaru Road 2.5 miles downstream." Thompson, 1958.
