Mountain group departing from the main Alpine Divide, whose name is due to Monte Argentera (3297 m), the highest peak in the Maritime Alps. It includes 15 peaks higher than 3000 m. The mountain group is located in the upper Valle Gesso, on the boundary between the municipal territories of Entracque and Valdieri.

The mountain group is frequently indicated as the Argentera Massif, but the use of this name is here deprecated in order to avoid confusion with theArgentera crystalline massif (of which the mountain group is part), the southernmost External Crystalline Massif of the Western Alps.
