Gruvåsens gruvor, also called Bornshyttefältet or Torskebäcksfältet is located N of Lilla (lake) Bjursjön and E of Lake Yngen.

The deposit is located in the Saxi syncline with slates, greywackes, greenstones, dolomites, and limestones surrounded by leptites. The mines are rather widely spread in a dolomite body.

According to Fernow (cfr. Tegengren) the mines were already operating in the 16th century but worked also in the 17th and 18th centuries. Interest in the area increased, and a dressing plant was built in 1910 at Torskebäcken, but due to a very limited amount of ore it was closed in 1917.
