Bloodlines Run Deep in 2013 Roster

Five Players Return from Last Season

    OGDEN -The Ogden Raptors announced their roster for the 2013 season Sunday, which features five players whose father played in the Major Leagues.

     

    The highest drafted player is infielder Jesmuel Valentin. The Manati, Puerto Rico native's father is former Dodger infielder Jose Valentin. Jesmuel was drafted in the first compensation round (51st overall) in the 2012 Draft.

     

    Infielder Alex Santana returns to the Raptors after hitting .269 with Ogden in 2012. Santana's father, Rafael, played shortstop in parts of seven seasons with the Cardinals, Mets and Indians.

     

    Also out of the 2012 Draft, Zach Babitt will play infield. The former 10th round pick's father, Shooty, played eight pro seasons from 1977-84 and appeared in 54 games with the Athletics in 1981.

     

    The 2013 Draft produced two Raptors with fathers with Big League ties. Right-hander J.D. Underwood, a fifth-round selection is the son of former pitcher Tom Underwood, who pitched for 11 years and six teams in the majors.

     

    Dillon Moyer will also join the Raptors in 2013. The 38th-round pick is the son of Jamie Moyer who played for 25 years in the Major Leagues.

     

    Santana returns to the Raptors along with four other from 2012. Pitchers Sawil Gonzalez and Jonathan Martinez, catcher Austin Cowen and infielder Jesus Valdez will all be in their second year with the Raptors.

     

    The Raptors first game is on the road against the Grand Junction Rockies on June 20. Ogden's first home game is June 22 against the Idaho Falls Chukars.
