Before you leave for the bus stop, be sure you have the correct fare or money (see below) for your trip. Please arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes ahead of the scheduled arrival time. As the bus approaches, signal the operator that you want to board by standing or raising your hand.
Before boarding MetroBus, make sure the lighted sign above the windshield displays your selected route number and destination.
If you have a valid paper ticket or mobile fare, present it to the MetroBus operator as you board. If you have a valid Metro pass, swipe it in the farebox or present it to the MetroBus operator.
If you don’t already have a ticket or a pass, you can pay for your ride when you board the bus by inserting exact cash in the farebox. The farebox accepts both dollar bills and coins, but please have your exact payment ready as MetroBus operators cannot make change. If you qualify for a reduced fare, present your reduced fare identification to the MetroBus operator before you pay.
For more information on different types of fares, check out our Fare section on this website.
Once you’ve boarded the bus, take a seat, enjoy the ride and watch for your stop. MetroBus operators will announce all major intersections so you can tell when you’re getting close to your stop.
MetroBus vehicles are equipped with either cords that run along the top of the windows or vertical strips positioned between the windows. Pull the cord or press the strip to signal the MetroBus operator that your stop or destination is approaching. Exit from the front or rear door.
