Law and Hoult’s differing energies turn the film into something more than a mere crime drama; it begins to feel like an eternal struggle with existential, civilizational consequences. This is an unforgettable movie.
The Order is an enormously effective thriller, and yes, a timely reminder that there has never been a time in this land when darkness and hate didn’t thrive, and in numbers.

At it’s core, however, The Order is really a horror film, made all the more frightening because the monsters who live on these Everytown, USA, Maple Streets seem way too prevalent at the present moment.
The robberies and shootouts are staged to brilliant effect. And even the over-the-top acting moments can be forgiven by the “period piece” nature of the history being told.
The film is also a chilling slice of historical memory in the ways it studies one of the earliest iterations of the version of white nationalism currently insinuating itself into American politics — and its haunting understanding of the insidious creep of such beliefs.
The fight against fascism is a serious business, now more than ever, and it is right that Kurzel treats it seriously, but this means his movie feels constrained tonally and the finale is weirdly protracted and even anticlimactic. Yet The Order maintains a drumbeat of tension to the last.
The Order is one of those: yet another Movie We Need Now, but the director inadvertently makes the case that maybe we don’t.
The Order captivates with its flawless blend of artistry and performance. Jude Law delivers a commanding and nuanced portrayal that anchors the film, showcasing his unparalleled range and depth. The cinematography is a visual masterpiece, turning every frame into a work of art and perfectly complementing the stunning settings. Equally remarkable is the pacing, which unfolds with such precision that viewers remain engrossed from beginning to end. This production is a true testament to the craft of filmmaking.

The Order was the long lost 2nd season of True Detective that we never got. Jude Law was haunted and Nicholas Holt's "messaiah-like character" was as clueless as most of these clowns are that think the world is one big conspiracy theory against them. The pacing was great, and the acting/direction were all top tier, but just like the first season of True Detective, I could have used a few more layers to this onion to peel back and see why each character became who they were.

Nothing wrong with the acting or the production values, but this story (based on facts) has been done to death. Is this the only white supremacy scare they can come up with? Why are we ignoring other nutjob groups? Oh yeah, no one would touch a muslim or black supremacy story in Hollywood, but white people are fair game. Hispanic people too. They never shy away from the cartels. You know where this is going right away and when it took place, but the period seems to be very shaky. Almost as if by intent and not incompetence. The reality is that this was late 70s early 80s, but you could swear some of it was placed in the early 2000s. Also, get a new title, Hollywood. How many "orders" can there be?
