A game that puts your creativity through the ultimate test - against a rampaging horde of otherworldly horrors. Build, and watch it all fall down - brick by brick.

Cataclismo is an excellent tower defense title, providing some classic horde-defense gameplay with an incredibly unique building mechanic as a twist. Cataclismo’s 1.0 launch was a straight improvement over everything I criticized in its Early Access version, living up to my expectations and managing to impress me a second time around.

Cataclismo isn’t very deep when it comes to mechanics or narrative. But the freedom of taking chunks of wood and blocks of stone to create defenses and a variety of other structures is very engaging and enhances everything else about the title. It helps that a player can choose between the more directed experience of the campaign and the extra freedom associated with endless mode and skirmishes. Using limited resources to plan sturdy fortifications is made easy by the copy-paste features and the fact that the entire Steam Workshop serves as a reserve of blueprints. Cataclismo’s core idea is good and extra focus on city management would make it even better.

A unique strategy that pleasantly breaks the conventional tower defense genre, where instead of pre-built structures, you create a wall against the fog with your own creativity. The surprisingly well-executed campaign keeps up the pace until the very end. It's a pity, however, that the same attention given to the wall-building mechanics wasn't extended to the construction of other buildings or the variety of units. Exploring the map is also fun, as you must build platforms, stairs, and bridges to reach harder-to-access areas.

Exceptional building mechanics support a game that sometimes feels like a chore.

Cataclismo is an RTS that combines resource management and tower defense elements very competently. The meticulous construction of walls and the need for constant planning make the game quite fun and addictive, in addition to providing the player with a good amount of freedom for customization. Although it has some caveats, it is a very welcome addition to the genre.

Hard to resist Cataclismo: build ever higher, more imperious and resistant fortresses with bricks that are very reminiscent of Lego, and to see how they resist enemy assaults. Sure, sometimes it hurts to witness our arrogance, to watch the collapse, but that is also the beauty. By day the optimization of resources, the joy of exploration; by night the continuous challenge between the human being and death. Between the solid stone walls and the claws, teeth and tentacles of monsters. Not everything is as fluid and smooth as we would have liked, due to an interface that is sometimes unnecessarily complex, a map readability that is not always exceptional and a basic repetitiveness of the idea, but it is hard not to get excited in front of some of the skirmishes we fought against thousands of enemies.

Interesting game, after 5h my opinion is positive. This game looks like they are billions or age of darkness but in 3d. For me 8/10

Cataclismo takes a mix of a City Building (cb) game, Real-time strategy game (rts), and Tower Defence (td) genre. Unlike traditional TD games you need to physically build your defenses. There are even economy aspects to this game as you are essentially building and defending a town/outpost. You need to protect your citizens, buildings, and especially the heart of your city. However, to me this game felt pretty flat, making it overall dull. The studio needed to polish the mechanics and playthrough more. There's somewhat a lot you can do in this game but at the same time not. As its a tiny mix of CB, you can take some time to build some pretty cool creations– creations that'll disappear after your done with your campaign/scenario mission, and get destroyed while playing. The building mechanics were also bit frustrating, and I wish there were more seamless ways to build things. Such as having preset walls/fortress buildlings you can make. It felt really fun using the buildings that were already within the level, but building them is inefficient due to both resources, time, and durability, as it would be better to just build a giant tall uninteresting wall. They do make up for this with being able to do sandbox mode and make your own custom levels, however it misses the point completely in the base game. The economy resource system also felt a bit weak and too player favored compared to other games. This game again is an RTS game with TD mix. The TD aspects is your movable troops where you choose to position and your buildings where and how you choose to build with your "limited" resources to stall and kill the enemy troops coming to destroy your city. The RTS mechanic is in adapating to where they'd come from, what enemies are coming, and adapting to on the fly decisions/scenarios. But the RTS in this game felt very weak, granted I was only in the early stages of the game, but even on Extreme (highest) mode the game felt way too easy. I am also glad for it but they gave you a mechanic to do few second/minutes reloads and to pause the game which I disliked but was necessary due to the pathing randomness of the ai and more so especially the confusion of learning as a new player. But overall the enemies just felt boring to fight. And there is very little interaction to actually do, and the overall attack speeds and time speed faster are pretty slow making it more **** unlooked aspect of the game that was also struggled on was its soundtrack and voice acting. The voice acting felt really home done, like they used people working at their indie studio than actual voice actors. And the soundtrack was pretty weak and also I think usually non existent in its most important moments– the preparation and fighting phase. With the games theme and concept, it really could've used some banger soundtracks like from Frostpunk. It would've made the game much more engaging and it would've felt higher stakes for me as I would've related to needing to defend the city more. But most of the game felt like I was watching a silent film with repetitive and slow gameplay. I think there couldve been some voicelines to give the game a bit more life too while the troops are fighting, as I think only time you really hear them is during cutscenes, and possibly(?) when you click on a troop. This made the game feel pretty dead and **** the devs are reading this the 4 biggest suggestions I have is to most importantly have savable presets for custom walls/buildings like Sims for example, have faster speed mode as your game is slow enough as it already is, more soundtracks and to play banger soundtracks during the most engaging moments of the game, and lastly a complete voice overhaul, hire actual voice actors and put some voice lines during normal gameplay to give the gameplay more life. If it had any of these, especially the preset build saves, I would've been able to play much longer.
