The useless Enter Key

I use both the WikiMarkup editor and the VisualEditor all the time, I was edit a project page for a while, and when I went to a article to make a small grammar fix, I noticed something, whenever you are finished editing, after you type in the edit summary, the enter key doesn't save the edit. What I'm saying is that I wish the enter key would work for at least the major Wikipedias in the VisualEditor some time soon. I don't know how hard this will take, but I hope it isn't too long to integrate.JJBers Public (talk)16:27, 4 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Allegedly, what you (and I) want isphab:T54133, even though the title doesn't sound like it. The devs declined that request last year, so I can't hold out any hope of getting what we want in the near future. In the meantime, in most browsers, you can do shift-tab a few times to reach the Save button and then press Enter to save the page, and there is also a keyboard shortcut that saves the page (probably control-option-s, but the meta keys are different in each browser).Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk)16:38, 4 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Meta + S (or alt + s) works here, this saves the page after filling in the summary. Basically, Alt + S twice saves the page, if one doesn't want to fill in the summary.197.218.81.114 (talk)21:25, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Deprecated template parameters

RESOLVED

When editing a template in the article, VE has moved parameters (marked deprecated in templatedata) to the up. Although in templatedata they positon in the end. it should be so ?

Example: diffhttps://ru.wikipedia.org/?diff=81786938&oldid=prev

"|девиз" and "|деятельность"

sequence in templatedatahttps://ru.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Шаблон:Карточка_компании/doc&oldid=81821672#.D0.9F.D0.B0.D1.80.D0.B0.D0.BC.D0.B5.D1.82.D1.80.D1.8B_.D1.88.D0.B0.D0.B1.D0.BB.D0.BE.D0.BD.D0.B0_.D0.B4.D0.BB.D1.8F_.D0.B2.D0.B8.D0.B7.D1.83.D0.B0.D0.BB.D1.8C.D0.BD.D0.BE.D0.B3.D0.BE_.D1.80.D0.B5.D0.B4.D0.B0.D0.BA.D1.82.D0.BE.D1.80.D0.B0Сунприат (talk)12:58, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

It looks like it has alphabetized the list of parameters, rather than following the order used in the TemplateData. TemplateData now has an explicit "paramOrder" option, so adding that to this (older) TemplateData block might solve the problem.Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk)15:43, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
no, and in the article and in the TemplateData parameters are mixed, not alphabetically.Сунприат (talk)15:52, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Whatamidoing (WMF) I created this setting, but still moves uphttps://ru.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Шаблон:Карточка_компании/doc&diff=81890433&oldid=81821672
try to edit infobox inhttps://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Группа_ГАЗhttps://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Электрохимический_завод and deprecated "девиз" always move to the top.Сунприат (talk)16:08, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Trying to edit a gallery crashes VisualEditor

When I tried to editthe gallery in this article, VisualEditor stopped responding, which forced me to refresh the page, pretty much losing everything I had done so far. This is something I've been going through with every gallery I've tried to edit using the VisualEditor, and the exact same thing happens when I edit as an IP or with a different browser.ArgonSim (talk)17:37, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I believe this is actually related tohttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T150638, and if so we'll see the fix in action soon.Elitre (WMF) (talk)19:47, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I had no idea where to ask about it, so that's why I posted it here.ArgonSim (talk)19:51, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

VisualEditor lists templates that are not exactly templates

This isn't exactly a bug, but something that could mislead inexperienced editors and predispose them to making mistakes. When searching for a template (predefinição) to insert through VisualEditor, each single subpage created on the template namespace (Predefinição: on pt-wiki) gets listed there, even though most of them are either the documentation (/doc) or the TemplateData parameters (/dados). Is there a way to blacklist entries located on any of the aforementioned subpages (like Predefinição:Teste/doc or Predefinição:Teste/dados)? Maybe something similar to <nowiki><noinclude></nowiki> could help telling VisualEditor that that particular page is not the template per se, but actually a subpage to it. Please notice that transcluding Predefinição:xxxxx/dados to an article serves only the purpose of adding a big table with its corresponding parameters.ArgonSim (talk)17:52, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @ArgonSim, this looks likehttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T54448. Mind checking and adding your suggestion if it isn't already there? Thank you!Elitre (WMF) (talk)19:56, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Default content on new page creation

I am trying to create a default set of content on every page created in the wiki. I tried to use the template but it is not dynamic to allow pictures and wiki editing as a default template. Is there a way to do this in mediawiki?OgreMHDW (talk)19:00, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

This was achievable on Mediawiki's default editor using the preload action, but that does not seem to work with VisualEditor.OgreMHDW (talk)19:16, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
This is already marked as a bug, seehttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T51622OgreMHDW (talk)21:41, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Is there a way to add a non-breaking space ( ), an en space ( ) or an em space ( ) without having to switch to source editing?ArgonSim (talk)23:22, 24 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not yet, although seehttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T134382 as it may eventually happen. What is your use case for the last two? TY.Elitre (WMF) (talk)06:55, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, I can't really think of any use to en and em space as of now, but thanks for pointing that phabricator link!ArgonSim (talk)07:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Random image display issue

[edit]

Mediawiki 1.27.1, associated Visualeditor version. Some images in visual editor are showing the following text "File:my image.png" instead of the image itself.

When looking at the url called, it has the format:http://mysite/wiki/Special:FilePath/my_image.png .

This url returns 404, the right url ishttp://mysite/wiki/Special:Redirect/file/my_image.png. Is this an issue with Visual Editor or Mediawiki?185.69.116.240 (talk)11:09, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@EnekoPanamá, can you be more specific-is the page not loading, you can't edit a specific part, you don't manage to save, etc.? I should mention that there are known issues affecting that wiki ATM, so this could be due to the ongoing situation.https://eu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Txokoa#Possible_issues_with_visualeditor_.2F_mobileappsElitre (WMF) (talk)09:52, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello, actually the problem is that once I have edited any content on the page I can´t save it. It is impossible to save anything. I will check the link, thanks.EnekoPanamá (talk)03:29, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Can you please provide the usual details (browser+version, operating system, skin)? An example of a change you are making and that doesn't allow you to save afterwards? I copied the content of that page to a sandbox and a test editworked. Thanks.Elitre (WMF) (talk)15:46, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
