You can comment in any language. We are especially interested in:

  • Feedback on the functionalities we have already deployed.
  • Expanding the list of existing gadgets and user scripts that are related to providing a better desktop experience.

We are discussing with many volunteers and communities at the same time. It may take some time for us to reply here. We apologize for that.

Thank you!

Why the Vector 2022 skin is optimized for mobile view in Wikifunctions but not in other wikis?

[edit]

Hi. I have something that needs to be clear. How doesWikifunctions is the only wiki that have the Vector 2022 skinoptimized for mobile view? In other wikis, it'snot optimized for mobile view and we have to zoom the page to see the content, but in Wikifunctions we don't have to do that. Although I have already enabled the responsive mode in global preferences, but Wikifunctions is still the only wiki that has the new Vector skin for mobile optimized, it does no effects in other wikis. I have checked that wiki and it seems they don't use any gadgets or css to change the look of the interface.Nvdtn19 (talk)18:10, 5 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Nvdtn19:: Hi there. We've got the special dynamic width setting enabled for Wikifunctions, because the content in the wiki is software-controlled and so works well. Other special wikis like Wikidata could easily enable this too, but for wikitext content wikis like the Wikipedias it's a rather risky change — people have been writing content for years based on some assumptions about how extremely wide content will be handled, and changing this would be a surprising, disruptive, upsetting event for some. Although I think it could happen, I don't think there's a wide-spread demand for it from the wider community (yet?), and I don't believe the Readers teams are focussed on this. For this wiki in particular, which is much smaller and more actively maintained by technical people, we could probably do it, but it might still be a little too disruptive for the taste of some, and it might be confusing for this wiki to behave different from the majority of wikis.Jdforrester (WMF) (talk)15:49, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Vector 2022: Pinned sidebar for anonymous users

[edit]

Hello, thank you for the Vector 2022 skin! I love the slick design! Since settings like$wgDefaultUserOptions['vector-main-menu-pinned'] = 1; currently don't seem to have any effect on anonymous users, is there another way to achieve the default pinned menu state, like onhttps://sanat.csc.fi/ - maybe via MediaWiki:Common.js? Thanks, cheers and all the best!Till Kraemer (talk)06:53, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

PS: It seems to bethat code.Till Kraemer (talk)07:30, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I took the liberty of adding this approach to themenu pinning options.Till Kraemer (talk)08:16, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
