Yoshi's Eggs,[1][2] also formatted asYoshi's eggs,[3][4]Yoshi Eggs,[5][6] orYoshi eggs, are objects from whichBaby Yoshis hatch. Yoshi's Eggs can contain other items or characters in some situations. Yoshi's Eggs are additionally referred to aseggs for short, such as in instruction manuals.[7] The standard design of a Yoshi's Egg is white with green dots, but they can appear in a variety of colors, depending on either theYoshi that laid the egg or the egg's contents or properties. There are gigantic variations known asGiant Eggs.

Yoshi utilizes several abilities with eggs, namelythrowing them as projectiles. A Yoshi's Egg is anemblem associated with Yoshis in general. Many games use Yoshi's Eggs as containers that Yoshi resides in, with some of them specifying Yoshi is trapped in eggs by villains. Outside of theGame & Watch Gallery series, games rarely depict a Yoshi hatching from an egg that is shown to be laid by another one.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World / Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[edit]

Yoshi Eggs first appear inSuper Mario World. When one is discovered in a? Block, Yoshi hatches from it, having been trapped in one byBowser along with his fellow Yoshis.[8][9] If Yoshi is already nearby, a1-Up Mushroom emerges instead.[10] The player character recovers a brown-spotted egg after completing aCastle,[11] though they appear in a variety of colors in theGBA reissue,[12] to match the colors of the Baby Yoshis that hatch from each of them in the ending of both versions.[13][14] If a Yoshi eats tenred berries, aSuper Mushroom hatches from it.[15] In the remake, the type of power-up is dependent on the Yoshi's color: eggs from a Green Yoshi hatch out a Super Mushroom,[16] eggs from a Red Yoshi hatch out aFire Flower, eggs from a Blue Yoshi hatch out aCape Feather,[17] and yellow eggs hatch out aStarman. If two pink berries are eaten, the egg will hatch aYoshi Cloud.[18] When the egg is expelled, it acts as a projectile. It can defeat enemies or activate blocks until it hatches.

There are also multicolored eggs that appear outside item boxes in theStar World levels. Approaching one of these will cause it to hatch into a baby Yoshi, with its color matching the color of the egg. InSuper Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, the Bros. can find an egg of any color in a? Block after finding the corresponding Yoshi inStar World and feeding it enough enemies or objects to grow it to maturity, though which egg will spawn is dependent on the Bros.' current form. The possible outcomes are as follows; forms written in italics will always spawn that particular Yoshi, assuming it has already been found and fed in Star World, whereas forms not written in italics will randomly spawn a Yoshi among those which have already been unlocked:

  • Green Yoshi for Small Mario,Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet), andCaped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
  • Yellow Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet), and Caped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
  • Red Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario,Fire Mario, and Caped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
  • Blue Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet) andCaped Mario.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe[edit]

Yoshi Eggs[19] appear in each level of challenge mode inSuper Mario Bros. Deluxe. Every Yoshi Egg is located only in aHidden Block, usually one exclusive to Challenge Mode. Collecting the egg earns the player 2,000 points, and a Yoshi hatches from the egg upon clearing the level. TheToy Box has an unlockable feature where the player can find the approximate location of a Yoshi Egg within a random level,[19] titled "Yoshi Is Here!" Collecting every Yoshi Egg unlocks the Peach Award.[20]

Super Mario Advance[edit]

Yoshi Eggs are collectable inYoshi Challenge, a mode available after completing the main game inSuper Mario Advance. Every level has two Yoshi Eggs, located in place of theMushrooms inSubspace. If the player loses a life, they have to collect the eggs in the level again. The player has to complete the level normally for any collected Yoshi Eggs to be properly recorded, as using a Subspace Warp in a level that has them will not count. Once every Yoshi Egg is found in a world, a Yoshi hatches from each of them.[21]

Super Mario Sunshine[edit]

Yoshi eggs[22] become available inSuper Mario Sunshine after completingThe Wilted Sunflowers, anepisode ofPinna Park, causingShadow Mario to appear with a Yoshi egg in front of theGrand Pianta Statue inDelfino Plaza.[23] Yoshi Eggs permanently appear in other levels after this occurs, but the player must defeat Shadow Mario to make a Yoshi Egg appear in Delfino Plaza[24]. There is a thought bubble depicting a certain fruit within each Yoshi egg, from which a Yoshi can hatch when presented with the requested fruit; the color of the Yoshi that emerges depends on which fruit is given to it. If Yoshi is defeated, he returns inside of the egg in its original location.[25]

Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs are projectiles that only Yoshi can use inSuper Mario 64 DS. A Yoshi's Egg is produced by swallowing nearly any enemy,[26] and he can throw it as a projectile.[26] Only one Yoshi's Egg can follow behind Yoshi at a time. If Yoshi swallows acrate, the egg takes the form of a cube,[27] and slides across the ground like a regular crate when thrown.[28] A Yoshi's Egg automatically disappears if Yoshi collects aPower Flower or puts on a cap. Yoshi cannot throw an egg while under the effects of aSuper Mushroom. Yoshi's Egg symbols also appear in two of Luigi's minigames,Mario Slot andSuper Mario Slot, where getting three in a row earns the player five coins.

Super Mario 64 did not feature any Yoshi's Eggs, but anunused egg texture can be found in the game's coding.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

While the Yoshi's Eggs themselves do not appear as actual interactive objects inSuper Mario Galaxy, there is a planet in theGood Egg Galaxy that resembles the Yoshi's Egg.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

Yoshi eggs return inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii. Two green ones are first seen in the background of the opening cutscene, where a small one with a blue bow is next to a larger one with a pink bow.[29] As interactable objects, Yoshi's Eggs work like they do inSuper Mario World and appear inWorld 1-3,World 2-5,World 3-2,World 4-5,World 6-4, andWorld 7-6. In multiplayer, a difference is that the number of Yoshi eggs that appear from a certain? Block orBrick Block, and therefore the number of Yoshis, is the same as the number of players onscreen. Besides eating fivefruits, a Yoshi egg can also hatch if a Yoshi eats aPokey during a vocal "paah."[30]

In the E3 2009 prototype, the pink Yoshi eggs wereoriginally red eggs from which a Red Yoshi would hatch.[31]

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Yoshi's Egg from Super Mario Galaxy 2
A Yoshi egg inSuper Mario Galaxy 2

Yoshi eggs inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 play a larger role than in the game's predecessor. They are located on nest-like holes within severalgalaxies. The first mission ofYoshi Star Galaxy involves breaking open a Yoshi egg that Yoshi had been trapped inside of.[32] An egg breaks if eitherjumped on orspun into. If the player loses Yoshi, he retreats into his egg, which returns to its original location. A Yoshi egg also appears on the "nose" ofStarship Mario after completing the first mission of Yoshi Star Galaxy.[33][34]

New Super Mario Bros. U /New Super Luigi U /New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]

Yoshi eggs inNew Super Mario Bros. U,New Super Luigi U, and theirport work the same as they do inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii, except only green Yoshi eggs hatchYoshis; such eggs also appear from certainHidden Blocks. The game introduces a golden variation with white spots that hatchesGlowing Baby Yoshis, except only one appears from certain ? Blocks and hatch the exact number of Glowing Baby Yoshis as the number of players presently onscreen.

InNew Super Mario Bros. U, green Yoshi eggs appear in the levelsYoshi Hill,Perilous Pokey Cave,Above the Cheep Cheep Seas,Prickly Goombas!,Fuzzy Clifftop, andSeesaw Shrooms, while Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs appear in the levelsFire Snake Cavern andWhich-Way Labyrinth. InNew Super Luigi U, green Yoshi eggs and Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs appear in fewer levels than inNew Super Mario Bros. U. Green Yoshi Eggs appear in levelsRolling Yoshi Hills,Underground Grrrols,Beanstalk Jungle,Fire and Ice, andAbove the Bouncy Clouds, while Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs only appear in the levelPiranhas in the Dark.

In the E3 2012 prototype ofNew Super Mario Bros. U, large blue Yoshi eggs with white spots that hatchBubble Baby Yoshis and likewise forBalloon Baby Yoshis from magenta Yoshi eggs with white spots can appear from certain? Blocks.[35] Both eggs would gounused since both types of Baby Yoshis are located on the world map, where they follow players instead.

Super Mario Maker /Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs reappear inSuper Mario Maker andits port. They and the Yoshis that hatch from them are usable only in theSuper Mario World andNew Super Mario Bros. U styles, sinceGoomba's Shoes are their equivalents inSuper Mario Bros. andSuper Mario Bros. 3 styles. If an egg or the resulting Yoshi is crushed, it disappears. A Yoshi's Egg can be changed into big Yoshi's Egg from which two Yoshis hatch before running as if an enemy or obstacle had hit them. It is possible to place more than one Yoshi's Egg, though only two hatch Yoshis while the others disappear. A Yoshi's Egg on a track does not hatch until the player touches it, knocking it off of the track, not does a Yoshi's Egg hatch within aKoopa Clown Car.

Yoshi's Eggs inSuper Mario Odyssey appear in secret areas of theDark Side and on top ofPeach's Castle in theMushroom Kingdom. A Yoshi's Egg can be broken from either a jump or being hit byCappy to break it, causing Yoshi to hatch.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs inSuper Mario Maker 2 are mostly like inSuper Mario Maker, but with a few differences. A Yoshi's Egg can be attached to a parachute, and dragging a Super Mushroom onto a Yoshi's Egg turns it red instead, hatching a Red Yoshi with the ability to breathe fire.

Super Mario World television series[edit]

Luigi is turned into an egg by aKoopa Wizard in "The Yoshi Shuffle",[36] resembling an inverted Yoshi's Egg from being green with white spots.

An actual Yoshi's Egg appears in "Mama Luigi". During a flashback, Luigi finds it inside of a ? Block in theLava Pits, from whichYoshi as a baby immediately hatches. While Yoshi is green, this egg has red spots instead.

Yoshi[edit]

Two halves of a Yoshi's egg.
The bottom and top halves of the Yoshi's egg

Top and bottom halves of a Yoshi's egg appear on the playing field throughoutYoshi. Stacking the two halves together will hatch a Yoshi, earning 50 points for the player, as well as an additional 50 points for each enemy plowed through as the upper half travels down to meet the bottom half. If a top half of the egg lands without its matching bottom half below, it disappears. A bottom half of an egg can land above another, making the lower egg half unusable. The type of Yoshi that hatches from the egg half depends on how many enemies were caught between the two pieces:

  • Sprite of a Baby Yoshi, from the NES version of Yoshi.Little Yoshi: 0 enemies (as well as 1 in the Famicom/NES version)
  • Sprite of a regular Yoshi, from the NES version of Yoshi. Yoshi: 2-4 enemies (Famicom/NES version) or 1-3 enemies (Game Boy version)
  • Sprite of a Winged Yoshi, from the NES version of Yoshi.Winged Yoshi: 5-6 (Famicom/NES version) or 4-5 enemies (Game Boy version)
  • Sprite of a Star Yoshi, from the NES version of Yoshi.Star Yoshi: 7 (Famicom/NES version) or 6 enemies (Game Boy version)

Club Nintendo[edit]

In theClub Nintendo comic "Ostern im Schwammerlland", the Easter bunny dropped a Yoshi egg, out of which Yoshi emerged.

A Yoshi egg has a major role in "Mario in Mariozilla". In this story, some fog coming out ofKamek's broom shrinks theMagikoopa and Mario to ant-size. When they sit on a blade of grass waiting for help, Yoshi swallows them. All attempts to get the two out of Yoshi's mouth fail, but ultimatelyDr. Light gets the idea that Yoshi laying an egg could be the solution to the problem. Yoshi obviously has difficulties doing so, but two hours later, he finally lays an egg. Light breaks it up and Mario and Kamek come out of it.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Super Mario Kart[edit]

Yoshi's Egg isYoshi'sspecial item inMario Kart: Double Dash!! His partner,Birdo, has the similarBirdo's Egg for a special item, and both look nearly the same except Birdo's Egg has magenta spots. When thrown, the Yoshi's Egg rolls along after a nearby opponent,[39] functioning like aRed Shell somewhat. When the Yoshi's Egg breaks, three random items are released,[39] which can beGreen Shells,Mushrooms,Bananas,Stars, orBob-ombs. The Yoshi's Egg breaks after rolling for a while, whether the player is in first or the Yoshi's Egg takes too long to hit the nearest target.

Mario Kart Arcade GP subseries[edit]

The Rolling Egg is the special item of Yoshi inMario Kart Arcade GP andMario Kart Arcade GP 2. It can be launched not only forward but also backward, though the Rolling Egg moves aimlessly, in the manner of aGreen Shell. The Rolling Egg does not release items upon breaking.

Yoshi has some other special items similar to the Rolling Egg. TheEgg Body, exclusive to the first game, gives akart based on a Yoshi's Egg. In both games, theMystery Egg takes the form of a Yoshi Egg with multicolored spots.

Mario Kart DS[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs are referenced inMario Kart DS, since Yoshi's kart,Egg 1, was designed to resemble one. A Giant Egg also appears in the scenery ofYoshi Falls.

Mario Kart Wii[edit]

When Yoshi's Egg+ is active, the egg is bigger and drops an extra item after hitting something. The Egg 1 also appears in the game as a Super kart. TheEggshell Glider resembles the top part of a Yoshi's Egg. Yoshi's Eggs also appear as background elements in N64 Yoshi Valley like inMario Kart 8 andMario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario & Wario[edit]

Just before the player beginsLEVEL2: Yosu Ko inMario & Wario, Wario places the upper half of a Yoshi's egg onto Mario.[42]

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island /Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]

An animated Yoshi's egg from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Eggs inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island andits port can be produced by swallowing enemies and then thrown. A Yoshi has to aim an egg before throwing it. When an egg is throw, it bounces off surrounding surfaces twice before falling offscreen, turning yellow and then red with each bounce. Eggs are produced byEgg Blocks and spit out byEgg Plants until there are six in total. Throwing an egg into atulip causes it to produce someStars.

Other egg varieties includeyellow eggs, which producecoins;red eggs, which produce two Stars;[43]Flashing Eggs, which produce aRed Coin; andGiant Eggs, which are created from swallowing aFat Guy, as well as red Giant Eggs that are used only in the final battle with BigBaby Bowser.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs inYoshi's Island DS function like inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. There are also flashing Eggs, which are out of reach in the stageYoshi's Island Easter Eggs and used to count how many rooms are cleared. Giant Eggs have a similar role as inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, since they are used to attackBowser in the two final battles against him.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

Yoshi eggs reappear inYoshi's New Island, working the same as before. The game introducesMega Eggdozers andMetal Eggdozers, both capable of destroying several giant items and enemies.

The official North American website has an "Egg Hunt" feature where clicking on lightly shaking Yoshi Eggs would show the reader a tip.[44] There are eight of these Yoshi eggs, with two being green, four being yellow, and two being red.

Game & Watch Gallery series[edit]

Game & Watch Gallery[edit]

InGame & Watch Gallery, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of two games. InFire, they fall out the window ofPrincess Peach's burningcastle,[45] revealing either aBob-omb orSuper Star when broken.[46] InOil Panic, Yoshi can lay an egg and throw it atBowser as a method to launch him away.

Game & Watch Gallery 2[edit]

InGame & Watch Gallery 2, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of four games.

InParachute, three Yoshi Eggs come out of theflying ship every 100points; one has a Super Star, and another has aBoo Buddy.

Yoshi lays an egg after every five pieces of cooked food he eats consecutively inChef, unless he eats burnt food, but giving Yoshi five more consecutive pieces of cooked food causes aLittle Yoshi to hatch in his place.

InVermin,Fly Guys,Para Troopas, and Boo Buddies pound one of the six Yoshi Eggs if they get too close, and thegame ends if an egg breaks completely.

The Yoshi variation ofBall involves juggling two or three Yoshi Eggs, depending on the difficulty.

Game & Watch Gallery 3[edit]

InGame & Watch Gallery 3, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of two games.

One is hatched by Light Blue Yoshi inEgg if he eats aYoshi Cookie once a cookie meter is full. Up to two eggs can be laid, with a Baby Yoshi hatching from one if there are no misses.

Toad is required to deliver Yoshi Eggs to Peach inTurtle Bridge after deliveringMushrooms successfully.

Game & Watch Gallery 4[edit]

InGame & Watch Gallery 4, Yoshi Eggs reprise their roles in the Modern versions ofFire (besides3-Up Moons replacing Super Stars) andChef. One of the balloons that lifts Yoshi in a hammock in theMessage Board is shaped like a Yoshi Egg.[47]

Yoshi's Story[edit]

Six Yoshi's eggs
Six eggs inYoshi's Story

Yoshi eggs are laid automatically inYoshi's Story when an enemy is eaten, but the eggs are still used as projectile weapons. Unlike inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the eggs hold no special effects, although eggs thrown by the White and Black Yoshis have more of an explosive impact. When a Yoshi eats a colored Shy Guy, it lays a Yoshi egg with spots that match the colored Shy Guy, includingBlack Shy Guys, though black-spotted eggs do not explode when thrown unless the Black Yoshi or White Yoshi is active. Every other enemy that can be eaten by a Yoshi automatically produces a green-spotted egg. The spots of an Egg Block and its produced eggs are always green, though in international releases, both match the color of the current Yoshi.[48] Thetech demo port features the eggs as flat 2D sprites with an outline that indicate Yoshi's health alongside theSmile Meter.

Wario Land II[edit]

The treasure for thethird story of the "Invade Wario Castle" chapter inWario Land II resembles a Yoshi's egg.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

SmashWiki article:Yoshi's Egg (item)

Throughout theSuper Smash Bros. series, three of Yoshi's special moves involve utilizing Yoshi's Eggs in some way. Yoshi's neutral special move,Egg Lay, lets him swallow opponents and turn them into eggs, temporarily stunning them. HisEgg Throw is his up special move, and for his side special move,Egg Roll (introduced inSuper Smash Bros. Melee), Yoshi can encase himself in an egg and roll around. Also, hisshield makes him encase himself into an egg. Additionally, for hisstage entrance, Yoshi hatches from an egg.

A single Yoshi egg appears in one of the events ofSuper Smash Bros. Melee. In it, Yoshi must keep the Yoshi egg from breaking. If it is broken, the player fails. If time runs out and the Yoshi egg is not broken, the player wins. The goal of the twelfth event ofSuper Smash Bros. Brawl,Sleeping in the Eggs, is for Yoshi to captureKirby andPikachu inside Yoshi eggs simultaneously.

In the first three games, the eggs are always green, regardless of the palette swap. SinceSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS /Wii U, the egg matches the palette swap.

Mario Tennis series[edit]

Yoshi eggs have only small appearances in theMario Tennis series. A Yoshi egg is the emblem on Yoshi's racket inMario Tennis for theNintendo 64, and the cutscene of Yoshi winning a tournament shows him laying a metallic golden egg.[49] Similarly, inMario Tennis Open, the cutscene of a colored Yoshi winning the Champions Cup or Final Cup shows them eating a trophy and hatching it afterward; the spots on the eggs have the same color as the Yoshis.

Mario Party series[edit]

A character emblem from Mario Party 8
The Yoshi's Egg emblem as seen inMario Party 7 andMario Party 8.

In mostMario Party games, the Yoshi's Egg appeared as one of the objects in various minigames. InMario Party 3 andMario Party Superstars, Yoshi's Eggs appear as items in the minigameMessy Memory. Yoshi and Birdo's signature orb inMario Party 7 is theEgg Orb, which transforms anyCharacter Space (includingKoopa Kid Spaces) into a Yoshi's Egg. Also, Yoshi's Eggs appear inMario Party: Island Tour as an item inPuzzle Pronto,Tile Savvy (only inTime Attack), andThree House. Yoshi's Eggs also appear in the Yoshi amiibo board inMario Party 10. A Yoshi's Egg is also seen on a card in theMario Party: Star Rush minigameTop It Off.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

A multi-colored Yoshi's Egg appears inGlitzville inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door after Mario defeatsSpike Storm in theGlitz Pit. The egg escapes fromMr. Hoggle,[50] who wanted to use it to make theSouthern Fried Egg Dog of Tastiness at hisHot Dog Stand, but could not catch it.[51] Mario manages to catch up to the egg, which starts following him around in the field while staying out of battles. At one point, after Mario loses to theThe Iron Adonis Twins, he finds that the egg hatched into aYoshi Kid, who becomes a party member. Laying and throwing eggs is the Yoshi's super rank technique, Mini-Egg, and the eggs that are used can shrink the enemy that it hits.

Mario Pinball Land[edit]

A Yoshi Egg functions as a type of pinball inMario Pinball Land. Mario can either buy one atToad's tent, obtain one from certain ? Blocks, or receive one from a roulette after getting aquestion mark. If a Yoshi Egg goes to a different area from the one in which Mario is in alevel, the egg can be found when he enters that area as well, or vice versa. In addition to the regular green-spotted Yoshi Egg, there is also aSpecial Egg[citation needed] that is red with white stars instead of spots. A Special Egg can be obtained from a red ! Block that appears in a level's boss area after all the level's Red Coins are collected, but only if the player does not already have an item. When used, a Special Egg combines the effects of multiple items found in the game. As well as the player being given a second ball, like when using a Yoshi Egg, both balls are giant (the effect of aMega Mushroom), and the drain at the bottom of the screen is blocked (same as when using aPipe), meaning Mario cannot lose a life. Mario also becomes invincible (as if he used anInvincibility Star). There are only four Special Eggs available in the game, and upon collecting or using one, Mario yells, "Special!"[52]

Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]

The Yoshi's Eggs ofYoshi Touch & Go function like they do in theYoshi's Island series, except they are made by eating fruit.

Mario Superstar Baseball[edit]

Eggs are used in the minigamePiranha Panic to defeatPiranha Plants inMario Superstar Baseball.[53][54] Eggs are featured in red, blue, green, and yellow spots, each effective only towards a Piranha Plant of the matching color, except Purple Piranha Plants, which are vulnerable to eggs of any color. If the Piranha Plant is hit by the wrong egg color, it spits fire at the player who threw it.[55]

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit]

Yoshi eggs are featured inDream Equestrian in theWii version ofMario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The goal is to race to the finish line while riding a wagon full of seven Yoshi eggs that are colored red, blue, yellow, pink, light-blue, black and white respectively. Obstacles have to be avoided so that the eggs do not fall off,[56] since each loss earns the player a 10-second penalty when completing the event.

Nintendo Land[edit]

A single red Yoshi egg is found inMario & Luigi: Dream Team as a key item, and the third item collected during a series of item trades pertaining to a sidequest inWakeport. Mario and Luigi are given this item from a redYoshi in the hotel district in northeast Wakeport after they give him theRare Fruit.

Mario and Luigi must then head to the west side of the entrance toPi'illoper's house in northwest Wakeport to give this item to a nearbyToad, who will thank them and give themPeach's Photo in exchange.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

InMario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the Yoshi in the mission "Yoshi Rush" eats three berries, creating Yoshi's Eggs. The Yoshi's Eggs trail behind the Yoshi during the race, and can be kicked at the Mario Bros. in order to slow them down.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Brothership has a Yoshi's Egg being the symbol and main weapon for theBros. AttackHatch Me if You Can, where Mario and Luigi have to pass one before smashing it into the targeted enemy, after which aYoshi pops out and attacks the target with aGround Pound.

Sonic Lost World[edit]

In theYoshi's Island Zone DLC level of theWii U version ofSonic Lost World, the player can obtain Yoshi Eggs by hitting anEgg Block like in theYoshi's Island series; however, they cannot be used as a projectile weapon. The player has to instead take the Yoshi Eggs to the end of the level, where they will hatch into Yoshis and giveextra lives. If an enemy hits the player, they will lose all of their Yoshi Eggs.

Mario Golf series[edit]

“Multiple balls have been turned into eggs!”
Toad,Mario Golf: Super Rush

A Yoshi egg appears in some of Yoshi's post-hole animations inMario Golf: World Tour: Yoshi turns into an egg when he gets a bogey,[57] in addition to rolling around and hitting the camera if it is a double bogey or worse.[58]Yoshi Lake has some giant Yoshi eggs, with some of the smaller ones being the tee markers. Yoshi eggs inMario Golf: Super Rush have a different role, where whenYoshi's special shot, the Eggschanger, lands near other balls, they become Yoshi Eggs, which wobble when bounced.

Yoshi's Woolly World /Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs do not appear inYoshi's Woolly World andPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World as items, asyarn balls replace them. However, Yoshi's Eggs make several other appearances. A Yoshi's Egg encases Yoshi after entering aTransformation Door. After bouncing around the screen, it hatches to reveal Yoshi's changed form. If the form being used isMega Yoshi, then the egg instead swells up to a larger size before opening. After everySmiley Flower in the game is collected, theBig Yarn Ball onCraft Island transforms into the courseWonderful World of Wool. The icon for this course is a Yoshi's Egg with spots of different colors. In co-op mode, if one player is scrolled too far off-screen, they return to the other player inside a Yoshi's Egg with wings. InMellow Mode, the player can receive anInvincibility Egg power up, which is also a Yoshi's Egg with wings.

A Yoshi's Egg is also used as the icon for Classic Mode and the world list on the world map's pause menu, and doilies with Yoshi's Egg designs with spots matching each world's theme color appear on the ground at each of theWorld Bobbins on Craft Island. InPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, the World Bobbins are instead placed sequentially in each world, with the color of the Yoshi's Egg on the dollies matching the world where the bobbin is. The sign next to the World Bobbin leading back to Craft Island inPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World has a Yoshi's Egg on it.

Mario Sports Superstars[edit]

A Yoshi egg appears in the same post-hole animations from Yoshi inMario Sports Superstars as inMario Golf: World Tour.[59]

Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]

Yoshi's Eggs reappear inYoshi's Crafted World, and function the same as in earlierYoshi platforming games, although they can now be thrown at the items in the back and foregrounds. In addition, after throwing an egg at a surface such as a wall, Yoshi can jump off the egg as it bounces off that surface to gain extra height.[60] In this game, there are four different colors of Yoshi eggs: green, red, golden yellow, and blue although the last three colors can only be obtained from anEgg Block or anEgg Plant. Moreover, by throwing these eggs on enemies, Yoshi can obtain items according to the color (except for green eggs): red eggs give 3 hearts, golden yellow eggs give 3 coins and blue eggs give 3 more eggs.

Later in the post-credits scene, that same Yoshi's Egg is seen sitting in rubble in the sewer inBrooklyn thatMario andLuigi entered at the beginning of the film. The egg begins to hatch andYoshi's voice is heard as the screen cuts to black.
