- “It's about time! I waited for six months to get intothis silly café, and I ended up getting all of my color drained... All I wanted to do was to relax, sip some coffee, and reminisce about the good ol' days. Is that too much to ask? There's too much aggressive action in this world!Mario, we need you to restore love and joy toPrism Island!”
- —Yella,Paper Mario: Color Splash
Yella is a character inPaper Mario: Color Splash, and is one ofPiper's five friends, the last one to be found chronologically. His personality appears to be a bit blunt, as shown by his fair amount of thanks for getting rescued and the straightforward way he reveals Piper's death. Unlike the others, he does not have a story to share from the past. He also does not return to their meeting area immediately, rather so after the others have traveled toMarmalade Valley, recovered theRainbow Carnation, and fixed the tree. Once they have been reunited with Piper, they head off tothe Crimson Tower, where they are found for the rest of the game.
History[edit]
Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]
Mario may locate a colorlessToad lying up against the fence in the southeast corner of theMustard Café. This Toad turns out to be Yella. He claims to have waited half a year to get in and had his color drained instead. He tells Mario to restore peace to their land before running off.
Yella does not return to the meeting area in the yellow district ofPort Prisma immediately after he is found. Rather, there is one Toad watching over the tree, which has become dry and withered. He tells Mario the other four -Bloo,Greenie,Purp, andRedd, went toMarmalade Valley to retrieve theRainbow Carnation. Mario must locate them in the valley, then return to the meeting area. The four friends have returned to a healthy tree.
At this time, Yella shows up. The others say they are excited to be reunited with him andPiper. Yella becomes dismayed, informing them Piper died, as he apparently found out about on his own. Expectantly, the others are in shock, insisting this is not the case. However, Yella tells them it is, and that there is nothing they can do. Rather than having his color drained, Piper dried up and blew away. Yella says he believes he had been sick for a while.
Just then, a nut falls out of the tree and cracks open to reveal aPtooie Mario is prepared to battle. However, before he can do so, the Toads form a line in front of it, telling Mario it is actually Piper. Although he does not say anything after this, Yella follows the others out of the area, becomes nervous when Piper trips, and relieved when he gets back up. This performance is cheered on by a group of Toads below.
From here on, Yella, Piper and the others can be found in front ofthe Crimson Tower. Piper is shown blowing them into the air one at a time, to everyone's pleasure.
