Wrenches orspanners are tools that are thrown as projectiles byRocky Wrenches and a few other enemies such asWrench Shy Guys. They are typically designed as a stubby open-end wrench. They first appear along with Rocky Wrenches inSuper Mario Bros. 3, where they are red when held and blue when thrown. Typically, they travel toMario's height and continue horizontally while spinning.
Aside from their recurring role as an obstacle, wrenches (called Spanners in the British English version) appear as a sticker inPaper Mario: Sticker Star. They can only be collected inBowser Jr.'s Flotilla by defeating certainRocky Wrenches. It is a normal-sized sticker, taking up only one square in Mario's album. If and when it is used in battle, Mario will throw a wrench, dealing moderate damage to the enemy in the front of the line. The wrench can also be placed into the Sticker Museum as #91, alongside the other enemy-drop stickers. The description notes its use as a repair wrench.
