Wobble Rocks are a type of rock platform that wobbles from left to right when the player stands towards one of its edges. They appear in theYoshi's Island series andSuper Mario series mainly.
History[edit]
Yoshi's Island series[edit]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[edit]
Rolling rocks,[1] also referred to ascrumbling ledges,[2] first appear inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They are rock platforms balancing on the tip of a pillar, and when one is landed on, it begins weighing over to the side it was landed on, eventually falling over. Only one appears each at the start ofRaphael The Raven's Castle andKamek's Revenge, after a sequence of similar-looking pillars outside.
Yoshi's New Island[edit]
A few Wobble Rocks appear inYoshi's New Island, specifically in certain areas in the levelCruise the Clouds. They behave the same as inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and theNew Super Mario Bros. subseries, but they come in two sizes.
Super Mario series[edit]
New Super Mario Bros.[edit]
Rolling rocks return inNew Super Mario Bros., behaving the same as inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They only appear inWorld 8-5.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
Half-circle rocks[3] reappear inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii, behaving the same as inNew Super Mario Bros., though they can now be re-balanced by standing on the side opposite where they were weighted down. They only appear inWorld 8-1.
New Super Mario Bros. U /New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Wobble Rocks appear yet again inNew Super Mario Bros. U andNew Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Their behavior is largely unchanged from its past appearances. They appear only in the levelWalking Piranha Plants!, though they also play major roles in the challengesBalancing Act andWobble and Rock. Wobble Rocks are among the few objects that do not return inNew Super Luigi U.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]
Teetering platforms similar to Wobble Rocks appear inDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze inCrumble Cavern, where they are constantly pushed from left to right by periodically overfalling streams of water.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, a giant Wobble Rock comprises theRock-Candy Mines portion of theMushroom Kingdom U stage.
