- “The White Shy Guy follows you around. Does he want to be your friend?”
- —Message Block,Yoshi's Story
White Shy Guys are aspecies inYoshi's Story. They are friendlyShy Guys, unlike most, and are friends to theYoshis. If aBaby Yoshi finds a White Shy Guy, the White Shy Guy follows behind the Yoshi like aYoshi egg, copying the Yoshi's movements until the stage is completed. The White Shy Guy takes the place of one of the Yoshi's eggs, meaning that the Yoshi can carry only five eggs instead of the normal number of six. After the stage is completed, the White Shy Guy can be selected on the Yoshi-selection screen. There can potentially be multiple White Shy Guys on the selection screen if the player collects them throughout the game without using them. If selected, the White Shy Guy equips the propeller of aFlying Shy Guy and travels toBaby Bowser's castle in order to rescue any Yoshi that has been captured by theToadies. White Shy Guys are usually hidden inside? Bubbles or? Blocks in thelevels they appear in. The bubbles or blocks that contain them can spawn in the respective levels only if the player has lost a Yoshi.
Other appearances of white Shy Guys[edit]
In other games, white-colored Shy Guys sometimes appear in similar capacities to other colors of Shy Guys, rather than be treated as unique like inYoshi's Story.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[edit]
A white Shy Guy also appears in theDS version ofMario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Here, it appears in the Adventure Tours mode inFrostown. If the player fails a mission a certain number of times, the white Shy Guy will offer a completion ticket, which can then be used to skip the mission. This does not work with the final three missions againstBowser andDr. Eggman, since the first mission immediately starts upon encountering them and the subsequent missions start as soon as the previous ones end. If the player uses a ticket to clearRouge's mission, it is revealed that Bowser and Eggman gave the white Shy Guy the tickets in the first place.
