Whacka Bump
AWhacka Bump (also called aWhacka's Bump inPaper Mario) is an item in thePaper Mario series. It resembles a loaf of bread with crosshatch scoring on top similar to amelonpan, a Japanese sweetbun. InPaper Mario andPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it restores 25HP and 25FP. InSuper Paper Mario, it restores 30 HP. It can be sold for up to 100coins. According to Whacka'sCatch Card in the American version ofSuper Paper Mario and some European translations, the Whacka Bump is actually a form of pastry, but this detail is not mentioned in other versions of the game.
History[edit]
Paper Mario[edit]
InPaper Mario, they are obtained by whacking aWhacka on the head with aHammer. After eight hits, Whacka disappears and the player cannot obtain any more Whacka's Bumps. HavingTayce T. cook one will result in aYummy Meal, while cooking it with aStrange Leaf results in aDeluxe Feast.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]
Whacka Bumps also appear inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, where they are obtained by whacking the Whacka onKeelhaul Key. Once again, eight hits make the Whacka disappear for the rest of the game. HavingZess T. cook one will result in aZess Special, while cooking it with aGolden Leaf results in aZess Deluxe.
In theSwitch remake, the Whacka in thePit of 100 Trials boss fight produces Whacka Bumps after being hit, which he can throw at the player and their partner to deal damage, or alternatively eat one to restore 25 HP, the same amount as the player. There is also a stronger red variant of the Whacka Bump that can spawn, which deals 2.5 times as much damage and heals 3 times as much HP. Defeating the Whacka for the first time rewards the player with aGold Whacka Bump, an inedible key item, while subsequent defeats will reward the player with additional Whacka Bumps.
Super Paper Mario[edit]
The Whacka Bump is also available inSuper Paper Mario, in which it heals 30 HP and cures poison. At the arcade, it can be bought for 300Flipside Tokens, or sold for 150 coins, making it one of the more profitable items in the game. Whacka can also be found in Chapter 5-1. In the first part of the level, the player should go to the far right wall. They then should useDottie to shrink and flip to 3D. Whacka resides on a platform beyond the hole. Cooking one in this game yields aRoast Whacka Bump, which raises its selling price to 200 coins, but it only heals 5 HP, not 30.
