- “If you come in contact with a Warp Box, you won't be able to escape its pull. You may be warped to an area full of enemies! Consider yourself warned.”

Warp Boxes are objects first appearing inSuper Mario 3D Land. They are clear boxes with orange edges and exclamation marks on the sides. Touching a Warp Box teleports the player to another one. A pair of Warp Boxes sometimes disappears after use.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
Warp Boxes are interactable objects inSuper Mario 3D Land. WhenMario orLuigi runs into a Warp Box, he is teleported to another Warp Box in another area, in a similar manner toWarp Pipes andLaunch Stars. After the player comes out of a Warp Box, it may sometimes disappear, leaving Mario or Luigi with no way back.
In early versions of the game, Warp Boxes were purple and some showed four diamonds as opposed to exclamation marks. However, the color was later given toMystery Boxes.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Warp Boxes return inSuper Mario 3D World andits port, where they work just as they did inSuper Mario 3D Land. There are alsoWarp Boxes that are trapped inside locked metal boxes, forcing Mario to get fiveKey Coins to make them available. Unlike inSuper Mario 3D Land, Warp Boxes have the same sound effects as Mystery Boxes. When playing with multiple players, characters that do not enter a Warp Box a few seconds after one does are automatically pulled inside.
Pixel Luigis appear within the cloud of confetti inside every warp box.
Super Mario Maker 2[edit]
InSuper Mario Maker 2, Warp Boxes can be placed in theSuper Mario 3D World style. They function similarly toWarp Doors, although they teleport the player as soon as they come in contact with it rather than requiring to be pressed. TheKoopa Troopa Car can enter Warp Boxes as well. The Warp Boxes in this game lack confetti inside them.
Locked Warp Boxes, under the name "Warp Box (With Key)" also appear, and they require aKey to open rather than five Key Coins. If the player does not have a Key, they will phase through the locked Warp Box.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
Warp Boxes return inCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker andits Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports, appearing inSuper Bell Hill andClear Pipe Cruise (Wii U version only),Chaos in the Grand Labyrinth (Nintendo Switch version only), andMummy-Me Maze Forever.
Like inSuper Mario 3D World, warp boxes in the Wii U version contain Pixel Luigis floating around the center.
Mario Party series[edit]
Mario Party 10[edit]
InMario Party 10, when the players land on aBowser Space, a dark-green Warp Box with a redBowseremblem on it appears and transfers the player to Bowser.
Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]
Warp Boxes appear as usable items inMario Party: Star Rush. They warp the player to thespace of a rival.
Mario Party: The Top 100[edit]
InMario Party: The Top 100, Warp Boxes reappear with the same function as inMario Party: Star Rush.
Super Mario Party[edit]
InSuper Mario Party, Warp Boxes appear only in thePartner Party mode, where they warp the user to the space of their teammate.
Super Mario Party Jamboree /Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV[edit]
InSuper Mario Party Jamboree and itsNintendo Switch 2 port, if Pro Rules are being played, a player can select a Warp Box as one of their starting items. Similar toMario Party: Star Rush andMario Party: The Top 100, they warp the player to a space of a rival.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Nintendo Switch)[edit]
Warp Boxes appear in theNintendo Switchremake ofMario vs. Donkey Kong, appearing in stages ofMerry Mini-Land andSlippery Summit. They work similarly to how they did inSuper Mario Maker 2, where they teleport Mario to another box with the corresponding color, but they can be used an infinite number of times. Warp Boxes come in blue, red, and yellow variants, which are toggled by their respectiveColor Switches.
Unlike in other appearances, Mario can also bring carried items likeKeys with him through a Warp Box.Mini-Marios can also enter Warp Boxes, as demonstrated in some levels ofSlippery Summit Plus likeLevel 6-4+. Entering a Warp Box will temporarily cause the entire play area to be paused while the player is transported to their destination point, but the same cannot be said for when a Mini-Mario enters one.
