Wario Shipyard (known asWario's Galleon in the British English version) is the secondrace course of theStar Cup inMario Kart 7. The course takes place around a Wario-branded sunken pirate ship in stormy weather.
The course features several references to previous courses and games. Minecarts filled with gold appear when the player boards the ship, which likely referencesWario's Gold Mine. The course is possibly an homage, as the game features a pirate theme, andBull Wario (a form from that game) can be seen above the Glide Ramp.
Wario Shipyard reappears inMario Kart Tour starting with theWario vs. Waluigi Tour, and inMario Kart World as the final course of the Star Cup.
Mario Kart 7[edit]
Course layout[edit]
The course starts in a dry chamber. After a short straight path there is a left turn leading the player to anunderwater area divided into two roads, one rising out of the water. After someramps, the racers enter a short tunnel styled after a giantFish Bone, and some Fish Bones swim through it on the second lap. On the other side of the tunnel, there arebubble-jet pipes. A huge pipe blows the karts up to the next area of the circuit.
The next road features a mud pit, complete with ship masts and aBarrel, which releases either aBanana, aMushroom, aGreen Shell, and rarely, aStar upon contact. A swinginganchor is found just before a shipwreck. The road splits into two short paths. As they merge again, racers must avoid twoSidesteppers and barrels.
AGlide Ramp takes the racers to a big area above the lake, where they must avoid hitting topsails and anchors. This area is followed by two roads: the higher one containscoins andDash Panels, while the lower one is empty. Thefinish line is set a right turn after both roads merge into one.
When playing local or online multiplayer, the Sidesteppers, the Barrels, the coins near the Warp Pipes, all but one Fish Bones and one swinging anchor are removed.
Shortcuts[edit]
- By using aMushroom the player can cut through the mud before the split paths.
- An unintended shortcut can be performed near the end of the course by gliding hard right and using aMushroom to land just before the finish line, skipping the final turn.[1]
- An extremely difficult shortcut can be performed using the air-blowing pipe. By leaning back off the edge to gain an upwards angle, using aMushroom and then using another in the air, it is possible to skip the entire shipwreck and land on the other side.[2]
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
Wario Shipyard makes its classic course debut inMario Kart Tour starting with theWario vs. Waluigi Tour. The artwork of Bull Wario is now found at the entrance of the sunken ship instead of at the exit and there is no longer lightning in the sky. The corner shortcut at the end of the course on the right side and the patch of mud before gliding from the shipwreck have also been removed. The anchors on the course swing slightly faster than in the original and the rightside-upJet Pipe is no longer visible on the course map. The current blown out from the giant Jet Pipe now allows the player to perform aJump Boost.
The course also appears asWario Shipyard R (reversed),Wario Shipyard T (with ramps), andWario Shipyard R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two debuted alongside the original in the Wario vs. Waluigi Tour, while the latter debuted in theSamurai Tour. In the R and R/T variants, there is an additionalglide ramp shortly after racers exit the Fish Bone tunnel. In the T and R/T variants, several water geysers erupt from the lake towards the end of the track. In the T variant, the glide ramp at the exit of the shipwreck has been removed.

Mario Kart World[edit]
Wario Shipyard makes its home console debut inMario Kart World, appearing as the fourth and final course of theStar Cup and the final destination of theSpiny Rally. It is one of two courses returning that originated inMario Kart 7, the other beingShy Guy Bazaar. The course has been drastically redesigned, removing most of the Wario theming in favor of a theme reminiscent of a haunted shipwreck. There is now only one anchor, which is now green, has candles, and glows when it is night. The Fish Bone head decorating the tunnel’s entrance has been replaced with a wooden pirate Wario head; his laugh can be heard when entering the tunnel. The minimap has been rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Due to the game featuring driving on the surface of water instead of going underwater, the track has been adjusted accordingly; as a result, the pipe blowing water, the Fish Bones, the Glide Ramp, and the anchors at the end have been removed (with the upper fork at the end being lowered so that it remains accessible), though the ramp at the end has been restored after being absent inTour.[3]Kamek can allow racers to becomeNabbit,Chargin' Chuck,Coin Coffer,Cataquack, orSidestepper. This course,Acorn Heights,Great ? Block Ruins, andRainbow Road are the only courses in the game to not havecodas in their music, with Wario Shipyard being the only one of the four to be a classic course, as they (except for Rainbow Road, which does not appear in Knockout Tour at all) only appear at the end of Knockout Tour rallies.
Geographically, it is located in the ocean on the east of the game's map, just south of the arctic region and north of the jungle region. It is the easternmost course in the game's map.
The British English version of the game retains the "Wario's Galleon" name fromMario Kart 7.[4] It is the only course in the game to have differing names between the British and American English versions of the game.
Routes[edit]
Wario Shipyard is the only course in the Star Cup inMario Kart World to not have a route leading fromDandelion Depths. The path between Wario Shipyard andPeach Beach has racers drive around aDragoneel and through a giant whirlpool with two large boats for drivers to hijack. Prior to being removed in version 1.3.0, the route from Peach Beach to Wario Shipyard in theSpiny Rally had a singleItem Box buried in the sand (but still interactable) right before the third Item Box set.[5][6][7] The route from Peach Beach enters the course from just after the tunnel section, but instead of turning left toward the cannon, players turn right and skip to the water section before the final turn. Other routes enter the course from this water section instead.
