- “So, whaddya think? Pretty sweet, eh? The sparkling golden walls, the luxurious chandeliers... And how about these marble floors? It's a wonderfully gorgeous castle for wonderful and gorgeous me. Hey, by the way—and this is a secret—the lower chambers are brimming with jewels and treasures that I've pilfered from all around the world!”
- —Wario,Wario World instruction booklet
Wario Castle[1] (orWario's Castle)[2] is a castle whereWario lives in some of his appearances. It does not always consistently appear as Wario's home, including inMario & Wario, where Wario has his ownestate, and theWarioWare series, where Wario lives in aregular home instead.
History[edit]
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins[edit]
- Main article:Mario's castle
Prior to the introduction of Wario Castle,Mario'sown castle was stolen by Wario during the events ofSuper Mario Land and converted into his own palace. By the end of the adventure, Wario fled and relinquished ownership of the castle to Mario.
Wario Land series[edit]
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3[edit]
Following after the events ofSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, when Wario lost the castle to Mario, Wario was more determined than ever to have a castle. For the events ofWario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Wario comes toKitchen Island to seek the stolen golden statue ofPrincess Toadstool, which he plans to return for reward money. However, Mario ends up swooping in and claiming the statue when it is revealed underSyrup Castle. The ending of the game whereinGenie grants Wario's wish depends on the amount ofmoney the player earns in the game. Collecting a certain number of treasures grants Wario what is presumed to be Wario Castle, but other outcomes include the smallest home, which is a birdhouse, and the largest possible home, which is an entire planetoid with Wario's face on the surface (the player is urged to try again if this is not the result).
Wario's Land II[edit]
Wario's Castle made its formal debut inWario Land II, whereCaptain Syrup seeks her revenge and hasher pirates sneak into it, stealingmassive amounts of treasure from Wario early in the morning. Wario spends the game in search of his treasure and the crooked captain, which he eventually recovers.
Wario's Woods[edit]
In theSNES version ofWario's Woods, another version of the castle makes a brief appearance in the heart of thewoods. It is first seen as the finallevel of VS Com as it is the setting whereToad, the game's protagonist, must fight the other bosses, including Wario himself. The castle also makes an appearance at the end of Round Game. As Wario rages on byplane, Toad throws one finalbomb at his castle. The explosion of the bomb causes the castle as well as Wario and his plane to go crashing down in defeat. Unlike in theNES version (which has a different ending), it is discovered that Wario's Woods has returned to peace, implying that the castle's construction was the source of the corruption of the forest.
Wario World[edit]
InWario World, Wario has recently completed the construction of his castle, now decorated with the gold and jewelry. His happiness with his wealth is short-lived when a mysterious treasure that he stole named theBlack Jewel awakens. It destroys Wario Castle and turns it into its own world in its own dimension, all connected throughTreasure Square. To get his castle and possessions back, Wario travels through the four worlds the jewel created, which includesExcitement Central,Spooktastic World,Thrillsville, andSparkle Land. In the ending, after defeating Black Jewel, Wario rebuilds his castle, but its quality is determined by the number ofSpritelings that are saved by the player on the adventure. In particular:
- If Wario saves only one Spriteling, he is seen sitting on his throne within a grove with a tent that is presumably meant to be his "castle" nearby.
- If Wario saves 2–10 Spritelings, he is seen in a castle resembling an old Wild West-style fort with torches.
- If Wario saves 11–20 Spritelings, he is seen in a stone castle resembling that of a medieval fortress.
- If Wario saves 21–30 Spritelings, he is seen in an illuminous castle with various fancy decorations.
- If Wario saves 31–39 Spritelings, he is seen in a golden castle withtreasure chests nearby. Beyond the gold colors and the chests, it is ultimately similar to that of the prior ending.
- If Wario saves all 40 Spritelings, he is seen in the same castle as above, only surrounded by multiple treasures as well as busts with his face adorning the place. It is also the same castle seen in the opening for the game.
Mario Party 10[edit]
After a lengthy absence, the castle appears on theWario Board inMario Party 10.
