VS. Dread Kong is the boss level of theBanana Kingdom inDonkey Kong Jungle Beat, as well as the first boss level overall. It takes place on a large branch in the treetops at night, with severalHelper Monkeys all holding torches in the background. This level's objective is to defeatDread Kong.
Level layout[edit]
In this level,Dread Kong has 500 health points. He attacks slowly by punching. This givesDonkey Kong plenty of time to avoid his attacks and counter. Each punch does ten deals of damage in the originalDonkey Kong Jungle Beat and 100 in theenhancedNew Play Control!port for theWii. Likewise, Donkey Kong can get two punches on the boss before he readies his attack. Throughout the entire level, if Donkey Kong attacks Dread Kong right when he is about to punch, the former can perform an uppercut to stun the latter, allowing for many punches.
After losing at least two fifths of his health, Dread Kong will begin the second (and final) phase. Here, his attacks are quicker and stronger, and he dodges all punches until Donkey Kong successfully avoids one. If Donkey Kong deals damage to defeat Dread Kong, the former will earn one to fourcrests in the originalDonkey Kong Jungle Beat and one to three in theNew Play Control! version.
