InSuper Mario games, anunrevisitable area is any location which is inaccessible after a certain point. Unrevisitable areas are primarily found inSuper Mario role-playing games where the player is automatically taken to such places during the storyline and may contain items or accessories thatcan be missed. Some platformer games that allow the player to roam on world maps may contain stages that can only be accessed once on the world map, or near the beginning of the game.

Games with a linear and irreversible stage progression, such asSuper Mario Bros. andSuper Mario Bros. 2, are not listed on this page.

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels[edit]

In theSuper Mario All-Stars version, World 9 can no longer be played again for the current save file if the player used any Warp Zone while completing Worlds A-D.

Super Mario World[edit]

The four switch palace levels,Yellow Switch Palace,Green Switch Palace,Red Switch Palace andBlue Switch Palace, cannot be accessed again after Mario steps on the respective switches. In the Japanese version of the game,castles andfortresses cannot be revisited once Mario has destroyed them.

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins[edit]

Mushroom Zone cannot be accessed again through standard means after completing it.

Stages containing bosses cannot be accessed again after defeating the respective bosses in each zoneunless the player runs out of lives, which results in losing theGolden Coins they have collected.

Super Mario 64 /Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

Bowser's Sub inDire, Dire Docks cannot be boarded again after completingBowser in the Fire Sea.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

The short side-scrolling stage for theStar Festival at the beginning of the game cannot be replayed after using the firstLaunch Star.

Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

TheSprixie Houses whereStamps are obtained cannot be revisited after collecting their Stamps.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]

The short introductory course before Bowser becomesCastle Bowser cannot be replayed.

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3[edit]

Course No.10 inMt. Teapot is replaced withCourse No.13, an altered version of itself, once the player hits the giant! Block inCourse No.12.

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[edit]

The tutorial levelWelcome To Yoshi's Island cannot be visited again after completing the level or exiting it from the menu. InYoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, however, this level appears again at the end of the secret stageEndless World of Yoshis.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Similar to Welcome to Yoshi's Island inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the tutorial level,Welcome Back to Yoshi's Island! cannot be visited again after completing the level.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[edit]

The alcove of theMushroom Castle can only be visited once in the SNES version, during the first visit, right before meeting theChancellor. After Mario goes to the Chancellor's room, the alcove becomes inaccessible.

The vault inMushroom Castle can only be visited twice; the first time right after meeting theChancellor, and the second time during theShymore invasion. After defeatingClaymorton, this room cannot be accessed again.

After defeatingBelome inKero Sewers, the room where he is fought is flooded and cannot be visited; entering the pipe that previously led to that room will transport Mario directly toMidas River.

After racingBooster in theBooster Hill track, the race cannot be replayed.

After defeatingCulex inMonstro Town in the SNES version, the room where he is fought cannot be visited.

Count Down's room in theWeapon World cannot be revisited after defeating it and leaving the area, as the springboard that takes Mario to this area now takes him to another area instead.

Donkey Kong 64[edit]

Once the first seven bosses are defeated,Troff 'n' Scoff's area is no longer accessible as the portal vanishes once that level's boss is defeated.

All of theBonus Barrelminigames not playable atSnide's H.Q. cannot be replayed after all instances of them have been completed. These includeBusy Barrel Barrage!,Splish-Splash Salvage!,Minecart Mayhem!,Speedy Swing Sortie!,Stash Snatch!,Mad Maze Maul!, andStealthy Snoop!. TheTraining Barrels cannot be reentered after completing them, and the ten level-specific minigames inHideout Helm cannot be replayed after shutting down theBlast-o-Matic.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario[edit]

After defeating theKoopa Bros. in Chapter 1, the large jail cell inKoopa Bros. Fortress where Mario and his team meetBombette has its hole patched up and it cannot be entered again.

After the Chapter 3 intermission, the interior of the secret passageway is inaccessible manually. While it can still be entered, the player cannot control the movement of Peach in the interior of the passageway after this point, as Peach automatically moves to the exit of the passageway immediately upon entering it.

After defeatingFuzzipede, the inside of thewhale's body can no longer be navigated.

After the eruption ofMt. Lavalava at the end of Chapter 5, the bottom of the room just beforeLava Piranha becomes unsuitable for Mario and his team to walk on, preventing the chambers beyond (three chambers) from being accessed (namely, the room where the Lava Piranha is fought, the room connected to the Lava Piranha's chamber where Bombette blows the crack and the room where the treasure of the final seed is found byKolorado).

In Chapter 6, after talking toLily and retrieving theWater Stone for her, her basin as well as the lower part of the previous area cannot be traversed again.

After the Chapter 6 intermission, the secret passageway cannot be entered again altogether, especially when Mario and his team reach Peach's Castle.

Madam Merlar's cavern inShiver Mountain becomes inaccessible after Mario places theStar Stone in the pedestal outside, causing flights of stairs to rise up and block the entrance.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Bowser's Castle is inaccessible after finishing the cutscene (after Chapter 1 intermission), which is exclusive to Bowser.

In the GameCube original, the red minor and major league rooms in theGlitz Pit are always accessible at any time as Mario can rank up and down. In the remake, Mario can no longer rank down, only up, making these rooms inaccessible after Mario climbs up the ranks a second time.

The interior of theBlack Skull cannot be revisited once it leaves thePirate's Grotto at the end of Chapter 5.

The baggage car and the rooftops of theExcess Express cannot be revisited after defeatingSmorg in Chapter 6, outside of using a glitch.

In thePalace of Shadow lies a hidden room connected toGloomtail's chamber by a passageway that can be accessed by blowing up the eastern wall withBobbery, which contains anUltra Mushroom and aJammin' Jelly (aGradual Syrup, aShooting Star and aMystery in theremake). Once Mario inserts all eightPalace Keys in thePalace of Shadow Tower, the floors of the four hallways leading to Gloomtail's chamber give way, preventing these rooms from being accessed again.

None ofBowser's platforming stages can be revisited once they are cleared.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

The generator rooms with theAckpows inMerlee's Mansion cannot be revisited once 1,000,000Rubees are collected, and given toMimi.

TheFort Francis dungeon room that contains a singleChain Chomp cannot be revisited onceThoreau is used to carry the block on the button switch that reveals a Warp Pipe, which requires the heroes to go back up to the basement room.

During the events of the game,Sammer's Kingdom is destroyed byThe Void, leaving a blank area called theWorld of Nothing. After the game is completed, Sammer's Kingdom is restored and World of Nothing cannot be accessed again.

After theDuel of 100 is completed post-game, all of Sammer's Kingdom (Sammer's Early Duels,Sammer's Proving Grounds, andSammer's Endgame) after Gate 1 is sealed off and cannot be accessed again.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

The ledge where theWooden Bridge scrap is obtained inWarm Fuzzy Plains is inaccessible after Mario collects it.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]

The airship near the entrance tothe Crimson Tower cannot be revisited after Mario hits the airship's self-destruct switch with hishammer.

While sailing through theViolet Passage, Mario must use theCompass to navigate past an area with purple fog, which brings theLegendary captain's ship to the purpleMini Paint Star. This particular area is inaccessible when sailing through on repeat visits, except with the use of aglitch to clip past an invisible wall to enter and exit the cabin while in the area with the Mini Paint Star.

The majority ofBlack Bowser's Castle (namely, the room whereRoy is fought, the conveyor belt room, the room after passing through the conveyor belt, the same room after the black paint factory is destroyed and the room whereMario has chase with the black paint) cannot be revisited after Mario destroys the black paint factory and escapes through the pipe to the entrance of the castle.

Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]

The dungeon ofPeach's Castle cannot be revisited after escaping from it at the beginning of the game. Falling into the trapdoor that led to this area in Peach's Castle on the second visit would causeMario tolose all of his HP.

The area where theEarth Vellumental is fought cannot be revisited after Olivia raises the dirt platform they are sitting on.

After the lake inAutumn Mountain is flooded byOlivia, its basin and the canyon to the left of it cannot be accessed again.

The stages of theBig Sho' Theater cannot be revisited after clearing each of their challenges, with the exception of the first one. However, Mario can watch the Shy Guy ballet again if he talks to a Shy Guy in the lobby.

None of the underwater sections inthe Great Sea can be revisited after collecting their respective treasures and clearing the purple streamer.

The top of the shelf (reached via a high jump fromLuigi), where the forbidden Fold of Life book is obtained in theOrigami Craftsman's room of his house, is inaccessible upon pulling theOlly Tape and retrieving it.

The trial temples inDiamond Island cannot be entered again after completing their trials.

The airship shooting section cannot be replayed after completing it.

Hotfoot Crater cannot be accessed again after using theairship cannon to launch out of it.

The entrance hallway ofPeach's Castle is visited only twice: first in the beginning of the game and then after escapingHotfoot Crater, after the castle transforms intoOrigami Castle, the entrance hallway cannot be accessed again.

Mario & Luigi series[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga /Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

Mario andLuigi'shouse cannot be revisited afterToad reaches the bathroom, orPeach's Castle grounds (also known asToadtown Square) after talking toBowser to leave for theBeanbean Kingdom.

TheKoopa Cruiser can only be visited twice: the first visit is during the flight to the Beanbean Kingdom, which becomes inaccessible upon battlingFawful; the second visit is afterJoke's End, where Luigi navigates through the repaired ship in reverse order before collecting theBeanstar.

The Beanbean Borderlands on the Mushroom Kingdom side ofStardust Fields cannot be revisited after crossing the border to the Beanbean Kingdom.

The Training Area where theStarshade Bros. teach the Mario Bros. their techniques after learning theHigh Jump andSpin Jump cannot be revisited after completing the tutorial. In the remake, this area can be briefly revisited by practicing the High Jump and Spin Jump moves in the guide.

The underground caverns beneathChucklehuck Woods, visited after defeatingChuckolator, cannot be revisited after Luigi interacts with the barrel ofChuckola Reserve with Mario inside it.

The gates toGuffawha Ruins are sealed afterBowletta kidnapsPeach, preventing the interior of the area from being accessed again, especially after the Mario Bros. obtain theUltra Hammers from theHammerhead Bros. in their cave. The ledge with the yellow pipe inLittle Fungitown then becomes inaccessible.

The interior of theS.S. Chuckola cannot be revisited once it heads out to sea and sinks in theSeabed.

The caverns where theJellyfish Sisters teach the Mario Bros. their techniques cannot be accessed again after collecting bothPearl Beans. In the remake, this area can be briefly revisited by practicing theDash andTickle moves in the guide.

The stairway that leads to the four big candles on the fourth floor ofJoke's End and the small place whereMario lights the candles become inaccessible once Mario lights all the candles and returns to the third floor, with the door closing shut behind him.

InBeanbean Castle Town, the northwestern, southwestern, and southeastern houses in the western half of the town are inaccessible when the player visits it for the first time, and become inaccessible again after the town's second destruction when the Mario Bros. return after defeatingPopple andBirdo inTeehee Valley. At that point in the game, the northern double-entranced house and southeastern house in the eastern half cannot be entered again as well.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[edit]

The non-transformed Peach's Castle in the past is not revisitable afterBaby Bowser is defeated.

The player cannot revisit theKoopa Cruiser, where they first learned how to controlBaby Mario andBaby Luigi, after its crash landing intoBowser's Castle.

The interior ofProfessor Elvin Gadd's lab onThwomp Volcano cannot be entered again after the fire is doused.

TheShroob Mother Ship cannot be revisited after the four bros. are ejected from it.

None of the tutorial courses can be revisited after completing them.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story /Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]

The non-transformed Peach's Castle at the beginning of the game cannot be revisited afterBowser eats theVacuum Shroom to inhale everyone in theConference Hall.

The areas with the dirt piles in both theToad Town Caves and theTunnel cannot be revisited onceProject K is completed when Bowser arrives in theTreasure Chamber inBowser's Castle.

In theBowser Jr.'s Journey mode, the first level in the game,First Battle!, cannot be replayed after beating it.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]

When Mario first enters theDream World, he appears in a rift and moves in a similar manner toLuiginary Antigravity to reach the portal toDreamy Pi'illo Castle. In subsequent visits to the Dream World, this rift is not visited again.

InMushrise Park, north of the entrance toSomnom Woods, there is a secluded area which is not connected to Mushrise Park's main map. However, afterZeekeeper shoots down theNeo Bowser Castle after Somnom Woods visit at the game's climax, it becomes the first section ofNeo Bowser Castle, and the original version (the area which was part ofMushrise Park) cannot be revisited again.

The last two rooms of Area G inDreamy Neo Bowser Castle, where Mario andDreamy Luigi fightBowser, become inaccessible after defeating Bowser. The cannon that leads to the first area stops functioning, marked by a green X above it. The pipe used to exit the second area ends in the ceiling of another area, in a game where pipes can only be entered while grounded. No objects are available to access the pipe otherwise.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

The storage room inPeach's Castle cannot be accessed again after the paper characters are released from the book.

There is a mandatory tutorial mission in Peach's Castle at the start of the game, in which severalPaper Toads are found. This mission cannot be replayed after it is completed, as it does not appear in theLakitu Info Center mission list.

After defeatingBowser Jr. andPaper Bowser Jr., Bowser's Castle in its regular state becomes inaccessible once it rises from its pool of lava and becomesNeo Bowser Castle.

Before Neo Bowser Castle is accessed for the first time, the Mario trio must manually climb thePaper Toad stairway fromMount Brrr to the castle. On subsequent visits, the Paper Toad stairway cannot be climbed manually as the Mario trio will automatically move between each location.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit]

In theLushgreen Sea Great Lighthouse andColor-Full Sea Great Lighthouse, several passageways cannot be revisited after the player inserts both plugs into the sockets in front of the big gate, since the gate that opens upon inserting one of the plugs remain closed (in both lighthouses). Even if one of the plugs is inserted, it can still be removed from a socket and be placed elsewhere, but both cannot be removed once they are inserted.

Fortress Zokket can only be visited twice: first in theGulchrock Sea, and next in theStormstar Sea. After the second visit and defeatingZokket, Fortress Zokket is destroyed and absorbed into theSoli-Tree and cannot be accessed again.

The illusory Mushroom Kingdom Mario and Luigi are trapped in cannot be revisited after the Bros. respond with "no" to the fake Peach three times when she confronts them in the castle hallway.

The main area ofBowser's Castle onWayaway Island cannot be revisited by normal means afterBowser blasts awayReclusa's minions in theSoli-Tree, since the front gate is locked. However, the player can use a glitch to bypass the door[1], and the hangar area on the right where the airship part was found remains accessible.

Donkey Kong Country Returns /Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D /Donkey Kong Country Returns HD[edit]

After pressing the rocket switches inCog Jog,Switcheroo, andMusic Madness, the rooms where they are found cannot be accessed again even if the levels are replayed.

Cloud Gateway
The short segment before the Golden Temple gateway inDonkey Kong Country Returns 3D

InDonkey Kong Country Returns 3D andDonkey Kong Country Returns HD, after using theRare Orbs to grant access to theGolden Temple and, by extension, theCloud world, the Golden Temple will become the "Cloud Gateway" on the world map, and the player will not be able to replay the segment just before entering the temple. Instead, Donkey Kong is immediately transported to the Cloud world upon selecting the Cloud Gateway on the world map.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]

The areas visited during cutscenes inEpisode 1,Episode 2, andEpisode 3 cannot be accessed again after completing the respective cutscenes.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[edit]

After defeating Bowser inWorld 8-Bowser's Castle, the player facesBowser Jr. and Bowser andHis Minions in a multicolored void for the final battle. Once Bowser joins the player's team, the latter area cannot be revisited.

Luigi's Mansion 3[edit]

In theParanormal Productions, the cameras in each of the four sets cannot be viewed after obtaining the elevator button fromMorty, preventingGooigi from being able to revisit the alternative versions of those sets whileLuigi is viewing the cameras.

ThePit Chamber and theHidden Passageway of theTomb Suites cannot be revisited after escaping from them.

Mario + Rabbids series[edit]

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle[edit]

None of the bonus rooms in both the main game and theDonkey Kong Adventure DLC can be revisited after completing their challenges and obtaining the weapons found in them.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope[edit]

ThePeach's Castle courtyard cannot be revisited after Mario andRabbid Peach are taken by theDarkmess Manta, which, in turn, cannot be revisited as it consists only of several tutorial battles, and thus not explorable at all. As a result, neither the main quest (An "Overall" Nice Day) nor its tutorial battles (From Cover to Cover,Tough Egg to Crack,Shot in the Darkmess andHeadlong into the Unknown) can be replayed after completing them.

After defeatingCursa,Cursa's stronghold disappears from the world map and can no longer be freely explored, though the Quest battles can be played again from the Quests menu.

Donkey Kong Bananza[edit]

The inside of theGreat Harmoneel's stomach inGroove Layer cannot be accessed again afterPauline is rescued.
