Uncle amiibo,Super Mario Odyssey

Uncle amiibo is a sapient robotic character who debuts inSuper Mario Odyssey. When the player talks to him, he allows them to scan anamiibo for one of two effects. He andHint Toad are always found near where theOdyssey lands. Uncle amiibo can allow an amiibo to search for an unobtainedPower Moon; the amiibo marks that Power Moon's location on the game's map. It takes five minutes for the amiibo to return with the hint. If certain amiibo are scanned, Uncle amiibo provides a matchingcostume. While these costumes can be obtained without amiibo, using Uncle amiibo makes them available earlier. Uncle amiibo starts appearing only after the player first completesMulti Moon Atop the Falls in theCascade Kingdom. Uncle amiibo does not appear on theDark Side until the completion of the objectiveArrival at Rabbit Ridge!, and he does not appear at all on theDarker Side. Otherwise, he appears in every kingdom.

Uncle amiibo's dialogue has him refer to most scanned amiibo by the name of the character, even if they are not characters of theSuper Mario franchise and are used just as a generic amiibo. For example, if the player scans aKirby amiibo, Uncle amiibo will say,"Let's see, that's... Why it's a good ol' Kirby amiibo!" If the player uses an amiibo that the game does not recognize, such as third-party characters or amiibo released afterSuper Mario Odyssey, Uncle amiibo will simply refer to it as "a good ol' lovely amiibo." Many amiibo released before the game are labeled as "lovely" too, such asDuck Hunt. If multiple unknown amiibo are looking for hints at the same time, the subsequent ones will instead be labeled "cool" and "mysterious"; in a similar manner, theSuper Mario Cereal box will be referred to as a "delicious" amiibo. Scanning multiple variations of what is essentially the same character makes Uncle amiibo treat them as such and state that the amiibo is not done looking, despite many variations of the same character (such as the YarnYoshi colors and the Famicom and NES versions ofR.O.B.) having different NFC chips.

Uncle amiibo also suggests using theRight Button button to scan amiibo asMario explores for other effects, as do several other characters in the game.

Mario is able to stand on Uncle amiibo just as on a platform, instead of bouncing on him repeatedly as it happens when Mariojumps on any other character.
