Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario about to attackGoombas with a Trio Attack.

Trio Attacks are special attacks inMario & Luigi: Paper Jam. They arePaper Mario's equivalent toBros. Attacks, except that using them requires the full trio ofMario,Luigi, and Paper Mario to work together instead of just Mario and Luigi. This means they additionally incorporate theY Button button, which Paper Mario uses. There are five Trio Attacks in the game. Using a Trio Attack costs Paper Mario'sBros. Points; each one uses between six and fifteen points. This is higher than Bros. Attacks, whose costs range from three to twelve. Trio Attacks are made by thePaper Toads the trio rescues across the game while they stay safe inPeach's Castle.[1][2]Toads, such asDelivery Toad, bring each Trio Attack from the castle to the team after certain points in the story have been passed. Obtaining theTrio Attack Hammer, another item created by the Paper Toads, from Delivery Toad unlocks Trio Attacks.Trio Racquet is unlocked by default when this happens.

Before using each Trio Attack, the trio uses the Trio Attack Hammer to flatten all enemies into paper form. The enemies return to normal when the attack ends. All Trio Attacks, except for Trio Racquet, are initiated by Paper Mario. This means the first button to press isY Button. The majority of the attacks, with the exception ofTrio Kite, target all enemies simultaneously, similarly to theLuiginary Attacks inMario & Luigi: Dream Team. Trio Attacks are also affected by any status effects that Paper Mario may have at that point, with certain ones limiting the amount of copies that can be in play at any one time.

During the final battle,Shiny RoboBowser is able to counter any Trio Attack while his armor is still in good enough shape. He also uses a Trio Attack-style attack immediately afterwards if Mario and the gang try to hit him with one when his helmet isn't destroyed.

Additionally, theAttackathon found in thearcade at theLakitu Info Center features a Trio Attack endurance arcade game.
