Toadbert's Drawing is akey item inMario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It is a sketch drawn byToadbert, who traveled back in time alongsidePrincess Peach andToadiko to thePeach's Castle of the past when theShroob invasion began. After traveling back in time and getting separated, Toadbert lost his memory and sketched what memories he had left. At some point after sketching it, parts of it end up getting covered by dirt smudges.
Mario,Luigi,Baby Mario, andBaby Luigi receive the sketch after meeting up with Toadbert inYoob's Belly after being eaten byYoob atYoshi's Island. Toadbert admits that he cannot remember exactly what the sketch depicts. The sketch is later shown toProfessor E. Gadd, who theorizes that the sketch depicts Peach's use of theCobalt Star in her battle withPrincess Shroob. E. Gadd also questions what really happened in that battle as Peach appeared to lose, with the Cobalt Star being shattered into shards.
Much later in the game, Toadbert regains his memory afterKylie Koopa falls on him. Both travel toStar Shrine to meet Mario's party and tell the truth, but Toadbert ends up running away with his Cobalt Star shard after hearing Mario's goal of reassembling the Cobalt Star. Mario's party catches up to Toadbert and Kylie Koopa after they were attacked by a monster. Toadbert then tells Mario that the answer is in the sketch, and says to rub away the dirt on it. Rubbing the dirt off the sketch is the only use of theNintendo DS's touchscreen controls in the entire game. Cleaning off the dirt smudge in the bottom-right corner reveals another smaller Shroob figure wearing a crown. Before Toadbert is able to explain what it means, the monster,Elder Shrooboid, appears and transforms him and Kylie Koopa intoShroob mushrooms. After this, the sketch is never used again and remains in the party's key item inventory.
At the end of the game, Mario's party saves Peach atShroob Castle and defeats Princess Shroob. Peach has the last Cobalt Star shard needed to complete the Cobalt Star, but before being able to explain why the Cobalt Star should not be completed,Baby Bowser takes the shard and completes the Cobalt Star. Peach then reveals that Princess Shroob has anolder sister of the same name. Peach used the Cobalt Star to seal the elder Princess Shroob within it and shattered it. After this, the younger Princess Shroob captured Peach. As Peach explains this, an illustration is shown on the top screen depicting the same events as Toadbert's Drawing, confirming the true meaning of the sketch.
